Lorie carefully flew off the tree to the ground below, landing not so gracefully as always. Last week she had hit her head on a rock trying to get down here and the eye up there still hasn't fully recovered, not that it mattered, she can't use any of her three eyes anyway. "Hey Lorie, getting better at that," said a familiar voice. It was her father, Locust. Lorie nodded "no more eyes getting damaged over here". She flicked her head around focusing all her senses behind her, something had made a noise, it was her friend, Grasshopper. "Fuck, i wanted to sneak attack you" she groaned. Lorie snickered "you're really bad at that, anyway we gonna leave or not?". They had been planning to go to the northwest forest just to explore, took Lorie's dad forever to let them but he gave in because they promised not to go further than the cherry trees. Her father grunted "remember your promise, if you aren't back by sunrise you aren't leaving this village again". Lorie pulled her ears back and dipped her head "of course father" she said before flying off following Grasshoppers sent. They stopped for a break amongst the clouds for a couple minutes. "Soooo, what are we really going to do?" Lorie asked, Grasshopper never was one for rules, they never went where they said they were going to. Grasshopper smiled "you know me too well" she said and playfully batted at Lorie's ears "we are going to the thorny hollow, its right past the cherry grove". "Why? Isn't that place just thorny and kind of pointless?" Lorie asked. "Actually it's full of points," Grasshopper said and laughed. Lorie smiled, she loved Grasshopper's laugh. Something about it was just beautiful, sometimes she wished she could see her best friend, all she knew was that she looks like every other chemiku, moth creatures, Lorie herself was a chimika, similar but butterfly creatures instead. She rolled over wishing she could see her best friend. Grasshopper snorted, "Come on silly goose, let's go!!" she said excitedly, jumping from the clouds. Lorie bolted up and after her "wait upppp!! You know if you go to far i cant smell you-" she crashed into a tree. Stunned, lorie stumbled off the tree into a bush and rolled into the grass. She stood up and sniffed around, the air was musty and she could feel mud on her fur. Luckily her wings felt unharmed, she sniffed the air again and the panicked realization set in "GRASSHOPPER!?" she screamed. All she could hear was her own echo coming back to her. She stumbled forward and felt something clawing at her side, she jumped one way and ended up stepping on something sharp, thorns, they were everywhere. Lorie blinked like that would clear her blindness but everything was still black, the eye on her head couldn't even see light like it usually could "it must be really dark in here" she mumbled to herself. She carefully walked until she got to a spot where it felt like there wasn't anything around, a clearing. It was still very muddy and the air didn't clear but at least she didn't have to worry about something tearing her wings. She sat down and sniffed again "Grasshopper, this isn't funny, please just come back". Suddenly she heard a familiar voice. "Lorie?! What are you doing all the way out here by yourself?!?!" said Junebug. Lorie ran over to her in a rush of relief "grasshopperwantedtosneakoutoverhereandthenigotlostandcantfindher" she said in one breath then started crying "i dont know where she is". Junebug licked Lorie's nose "it's too dangerous in there to go searching, you're lucky you didn't get snapped up by a unicorn". Lorie shot backwards "what do you mean?! We HAVE to find her!!!" she growled. Junebug huffed "we can't, she's a lost cause, I understand you guys were best friends but anyone who goes in there never comes back. She's gone lorie, and there is nothing we can do about it". Lorie turned to the thorny hollow, she could go searching, nobody would go after her, nobody ever goes after someone who goes in there, but she stopped herself, she isn't strong enough to go right now and she needs to be alive when she finds Grasshopper. "I'll find you, I promise" she whispered, she shivered and felt a little bit of herself leave her body and wisp into the hollow. She turned back to Junebug who was looking at her sternly "your father isn't going to be pleased knowing his daughter just promised something". "He can fuck himself, its my first promise ever, I'm not going to die" lorie sighed in annoyance. They started towards home.
