I woke up to a loud banging coming from my door. I groan, rolling over and meeting eyes with newt.
"what are you doing?" i stretch my arms above my head.
He smirked at me while banging one of frys pots with a wooden stick.
"cut it out you shank" i roared.
"do you have any idea what time it is?" he shouted over the rattling.
I jumped out of bed, shoving him hardly out of my hut, "don't come back in here i'm getting ready"
I could hear him still outside my hut as i collapsed back onto my bed.
"y/n, i said get up" he barged back in and stormed over to me.
He grasped my arm, dragging me to my feet, "i wont tell you again, get ready"
I groaned as he slammed my door shut and began rummaging through some clothes.
"this'll do" i mumbled, pulling my shirt over my head. I pulled on the black shirt and a pair of denim shorts. I yawned, while walking over to jeff in the garden, "enjoy your beauty sleep? it's almost midday" he chuckled.
"y/n i need you to get fertiliser from the forest" newt demanded.
"why me? out of everyone here" i protested, folding my arms at the boy.
"because i said so, i'm the one in charge here"
"and if i don't will it hurt your precious little feelings" i mocked.
"jeez i'll get it, pass me the basket" jeff interrupted our bickering.
"thank you jeff" i smiled to him.
"at least someone's helpful around here" newt scoffed, rolling his eyes at me.
"fuck off and go do something with your life newt"
"woah guys calm down" minho jogged over "just stay out of each other's way, there problem solved"
"maybe he shouldn't barge in my hut and wake me up like an animal"
"maybe she should wake up on time like the rest of us"
"enough. y/n come with me i gotta talk to you anyways" minho pulled my arm away. He began walking with me around the glade, "i talked to alby about you being a runner, he says he might consider it in the next week" minho gleamed.
"no way i'll have to be on my best behaviour" i joked.
"better be, no more fighting with newt" he warned.
We were cut off by the blaring sound of the box.
"new greenie" i looked at minho "race you"
We both sprinted towards the box as it came to a stop. Gally pulled the rusted hatch open, revealing a brown haired boy scrunched in the corner. "day one greenie" gally pulled him up.
He frantically stared around before pushing through the crowd and sprinting as fast as he could.
"we've got a runner" zart shouted.
He kept running through the grass until he collapsed. The others jeered and laughed at him for a minute before separating back to their jobs. I glanced to minho and he nodded as i jogged to the greenie, "hey are you alright?" i asked, pulling him from the floor. "where am i? who are you?" he bombarded me with questions.
"here i'll show you around" i pulled his arm as we walked towards the gardens "here's our gardens, pay attention you'll probably have to work here for a few days" i began walking again but harshly bumped into someone.
"watch it shank" newt spat.
"your the one whose in my way idiot"
"be careful what you say i could easily get you a night in the pit" he smirked.
"can't put me in the pit when i'm albys favourite" i shrugged and walked away with the greenie.
"see those two over there" i pointed to minho and ben "those are our main runners, they run the maze everyday to find a way out"
The greenie stared at me, "maze?" he queered.
"yeah, if you didn't figure it out already we're stuck here"
"how long have you been here for?"
"3 years" i swallowed the lump in my throat.
"y/n" chuck shouted from a distance. I ran to him, hugging him tightly, "where've you been?"
"getting something for you" he pulled a bouquet of flowers from behind his back.
"aw chuck your adorable" i cooed. "they're beautiful"
"would you be the best ever and put them in my hut please" he began to skip away "also chuck, could you show the greenie around until the bonfire tonight"
Chuck took the greenie and walked with him to my hut.
"ben" i shouted, signalling him over here "remember put in a good word to alby so i can run with you and minho"
He ruffled my hair "don't worry y/n, on it now"
