Sometimes, the people who quietly change our lives begin as nothing more than a passing glance.

The Thai entertainment industry had never slept.
It merely changed shifts.
By six in the morning, studio lights were already warming up. Makeup artists hurried from one dressing room to another with palettes in hand, stylists steamed garments that had arrived only hours earlier, production assistants clutched clipboards as if they were extensions of their own arms, and somewhere in the middle of it all, someone was already apologizing for traffic.
It was another ordinary day.
Ordinary... at least, for people whose lives had long stopped being ordinary.
Lingling Kwong preferred mornings before the world became loud.
The city outside her condominium was only beginning to wake, washed in pale gold as the first rays of sunlight filtered through the curtains.
The apartment itself was quiet.
Peaceful.
Exactly the way she liked it.
Her routine rarely changed.
A glass of water.
Stretching.
A light workout.
Breakfast.
Coffee.
Then work.
Some people call it discipline.
Ling simply called it a habit.
Her phone vibrated softly on the kitchen counter.
Manager
Morning, P'Ling.
Car arrives at 8:15.
Photoshoot first, then the interview afterward.
Don't forget they're asking about the upcoming reality show.
Ling read the message once before replying.
Thank you
I'll be ready.
...typing
...typing
I know you will. 😂
A small smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
Her manager had spent years trying to make her use more than one emoji.
Today was apparently another attempt.
Ling locked her phone and continued eating breakfast.
