The apartment was cold and empty, yet gruesomely normal, unlike the day he had just had.

The mission had been brutal with much more bloodshed than needed, but every other detail was pretty much a blur to the Lieutenant. Ghost makes a beeline for his bedroom, refusing to acknowledge anything in the apartment, including his growing feelings of guilt and despair.

The bedroom was small and plain, but not empty. There's a picture frame on the nightstand of the whole Task Force, a mirror hanging on the wall, and a desk that has a couple of unfinished reports and some scattered pens. Ghost strips off his coat after forgetting to leave it at the door and lays in bed, not caring about showering.

After half an hour of tossing and turning, his eyes flutter closed, his mind drifting into a world of darkness.

3:17am

Ghost shoots up, clutching his chest. The mission was so fresh in his mind, yet his dream couldn't put the events together any better than a toddler.

The apartment is dark, the only noise being his hurried breathing and the buzz of the AC. He looks down, finally realizing he was still dressed in his work clothes. After contemplating, Ghost gets up and changes into a grey tshirt and black sweatpants before glancing at himself in the mirror. His mask was off, showing a face that he hated looking at.

He couldn't help but feel stupid. He's been on countless missions, killed many like nothing, yet this singular mission has left him more shaken than usual. He turns back, his eyes drifting to the nightstand, the faces of the photo smiling at him. He can't help but frown back at them.

Beside the photo is his phone, plugged into a charger. He walks back over to the bed, sitting on the edge while picking up his phone. One text from Soap.

Ghost sighs and turns the phone off, the memories of the mission reminding him of his sins. He can't face Soap. He can't even face himself.
