A'hlani Sanaye Taylor - 15

"Bitch, you always bothering me. Touch me again and I'ma hit you in yo' shit. I'm finna go tell Uncle Tez on you, irky bitch," I said, looking at Jr.

"Lani, shut yo' crybaby ass up, dawg," Jr. said, making me mug him.

Like nigga, you started with me. I'd really beat the fuck outta him, but he taller and stronger, so I'm not even gone try it.

"You niggas always arguing. Get along, damn," Zy said, looking between me and Jr.

"Shut up, nigga, 'fore I punch on you too, bitch," I said, getting up and grabbing my jacket.

"Right, pussy ass nigga."

"Lani, you like 4'11. I'd dust you. And Jr., you get no pussy, gay bitch. Shut up," Zy said, lighting his blunt.

Before I could say anything else, my TT Mia knocked on Jr.'s bedroom door.

"Lani, yo' daddy said y'all leaving," she told me.

"Okay, here I come," I said.

"Lani, where yo' sexy ass homegirl at?" Jr. asked.

"Which one?" I asked.

"Anyla."

"Man, ew, what the fuck?" I said, mugging him. "Anyways, she minding her business."

"You always blocking, dawg," he muttered, dropping into his gaming chair.

"Beat it, bitch. I'ma fuck with y'all boys later," I laughed as I walked out of his room.

I walked downstairs and saw my daddy standing by the front door with his keys already in his hand, waiting on me.

"You move slow, man," he said.

"My bad. I was upstairs handling business," I replied, walking past him and out the door.

He just shook his head and followed behind me.

"Dad, you taking me to my mama's?" I asked after climbing into the passenger seat.

"Yeah. I gotta make plays tonight," he answered as he started the car.

I nodded and leaned my head against the window.

---

Thirty minutes later...

"Lani, wake up," my daddy said, gently shaking my shoulder.

I slowly opened my eyes and looked out the window. We were parked outside my mama's apartment building.

"Can I have some weed, Dad?" I asked, looking over at him.

"Yeah."

He reached into the back seat and handed me a small bag.

"Thank you, Daddy. I love you."

"I love you too, Sanaye."

I closed the door behind me. He waited until I made it inside before pulling off.

"Mommy, where you at?" I yelled, walking through the front door.

"Kitchen, baby," she called back.

I walked in and immediately smelled seafood.

"Ayeee! Seafood for dinner! I knew you saw that TikTok," I said, doing a little happy dance.

She looked at me and laughed.

"You always been so crazy."

I laughed too.

"How was it with your dad?" she asked while stirring the pot.

"It was good. We went over to Jr.'s house."

She nodded.

"Oh, okay. That's good."

"Yeah. Did you go to work today?"

"Yes, girl. Them people up there crazy," she said, shaking her head.

"See? I told you. Just be a stay-at-home mom."

She turned around and looked at me.

"Girl, who gone pay these bills?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"My daddy... duh."

She laughed.

"Get out my face, girl."

I laughed with her.

"I'm finna go take a shower and probably call my friends. Can you come get me when the food done?"

"Yeah, I got you, boo."

I hopped off the counter and headed upstairs to my room.

The first thing I did was roll up, 'cause I definitely was gone need this after my shower.

Right after I finished, my phone started ringing.

I answered with a smile.

"What's up, sistaaaaassssss?"

"What's yo' tea today, sis?" Nyla asked.

"Sista, what's yo' deal today?" Jade added.

"Nothing. Forever sitting pretty and being that girl. What happened?" I said while propping my phone up.

"Lani, yo' cousin texted me," Nyla said.

"Ew... it was Jr.?"

"Yep," she answered, popping the p.

"I don't know... I think Zy kinda cute," Jade admitted.

"Y'all nasty," I laughed. "I'ma talk to y'all when I get out the shower."

"Okay. Love you," they said together.

"Love y'all too."

I hung up the phone.

I walked into my closet and grabbed a white tank top and a pair of red Nike Pros.

Then I went into my bathroom and pulled my speaker from underneath the sink.

"What we feeling today?" I asked myself.

I pressed play on "Angel With an Attitude" by Rod Wave.

I don't care what y'all say—that song hard.

I took off my clothes and pulled my bonnet over my braids before stepping into the shower. The hot water hit my skin while I sang every lyric like I was performing my own concert.

About twenty minutes later, I finally turned the water off and wrapped a towel around myself.

My mama knocked on the bathroom door.

"Food's done, Sanaye."

"Okay, I'm almost done."

I rubbed lotion all over my body, put on my Victoria's Secret set, then threw on my clothes.

When I walked downstairs, my mama was already sitting on the couch with a pan balanced on her lap.

"Girl, hurry up and come on. I wanna watch BMF."

"Okay, okay, I'm coming."

I grabbed my own pan from the kitchen and sat beside her on the couch.

"Alright, turn it on," I said. I had been avoiding spoilers all week, so I was excited to finally catch up.

"Just don't make a mess on my couch," my mama warned.

"I won't."

As the TV lit up the living room, I got comfortable, fixed my blanket over my legs, and turned my full attention to the screen.
