hi, you guys! i'm just gonna copy and paste this message from my tumblr post. it essentially conveys just about what i would say here. if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
here's my post from mjblr:
"at the risk of sounding cliche or "holier than thou"—bc i and the Lord know i'm far from the latter, "for all have sinned and fallen short,"—i cannot keep silent.
and what i'm going to say, i'd love to discuss with you all. i'm not interested in an argument or sowing discord, but i love having respectful conversations with people. anything in this that comes across as an attack or degradation, it's not, and i apologize that it was conveyed as such. i see things from multiple angles, and this is one of them.
this is not your typical rant or "hot take" that you'd expect on mjblr, but i pray that you bear with me. tarry for a moment, will you?
when i first started out on here, which wasn't long ago at all, i decided that i would never share my personal opinions and beliefs for fear of being canceled or incurring the wrath of other writers and readers, who are all too quick to act as judge, jury, and executioner. but, this is my corner of the internet. i'm responsible for it. i can share as much as i'd like or not like to.
i've decided that i'm leaving mjblr. and wattpad (though i've yet to make that announcement on there 🤫).
for the time being, my blog will still be open and all my posts will remain up. i'm not unfollowing anyone or anything like that. but i find that mjblr is extremely lustful, and that's a terrible state of mind to be surrounded with when it's 24/7. ofc, there are fluff, slice of life, and angst writers, but they pale in comparison to smut.
i think it doesn't help that smut garners sm attention, so writers keep writing to retain and gather readers, and it feeds the cycle. idc if you're an adult, if your blog is 18+, yada yada yada. it's not healthy. there is an overload of smut on mjblr and a lot of you are addicted. that once included myself, but by God's grace, it no longer does.
where is the decorum? where is privacy? why is it that everything has become so sexual? there's much, much, much more to life than sex and temporal pleasure. in my own personal experience, nothing satisfies more than a true relationship with God. and i'm not here to drone on about religion or condemn you, so i'll go lightly on that. BUT, i would say, maybe try and lay off the hyper sexualization?
i used to do the same, but as i've gotten older and experienced God for myself and have my own relationship with him, i find myself changing (for the better). i'm mostly putting down my pen (at least in regards to fanfiction) because it's counteractive to my goals and aspirations, but also, michael was a real person. and so often in fanfics we use his real life pains for our own entertainment. we twist his allegations, financial strains, insecurities, etc., to implant ourselves into the life of a man we never personally knew.
he was a celebrity. we ofc saw real parts of him, but you must remember, the man was an artist. he carefully curated his image so we could see what he wanted us to see—and i'm not saying there was anything bad beneath the surface (beyond the flaws we all have), and don't you dare misconstrue my words and accuse me of thinking he's guilty cs i DON'T (ik how some of you work, so i'm leaving no room for that to be put on my name)—but... idk. the concept of celebrities in general, i've begun to find quite strange.
why do we put them on such a pedestal? they're people like you and i, doing a JOB, and getting paid. it'd be no different than someone seeing you work, whatever your work may be, and deciding you're so attractive that they want to sleep with you, marry you, have children with you, know your address, your phone number, your family, your secrets, etc. why is obsession normalized with celebrities when we can all plainly see it's not okay with any other person?
i'm a serious angst writer. not here, but on wattpad. and honestly, we're not okay either 😭. cause why are we so enthralled with pain and suffering? when we write it, believe it or not, we're glorifying it. and we take pleasure in it. why am i writing michael experiencing heartbreak when he had more than enough in his lifetime? again, for my personal enjoyment. i realize how selfish of me it is to do so.
again, these are my own convictions. this is why i'm no longer writing fanfics. but i care and love for you all so much, and i'll miss the friends i've made during my time here. you'll all be in my prayers, and at least for a little while, i'll continue checking in. 🤎"
i'm sure this may be quite disappointing to some of you, esp considering my works are far from finished, and some barely even started. but i know that this is the best decision for me personally, and also my duty to all of you.
