Chapter 1

The Professor Everyone Wouldn't Shut Up About

Pond's POV

Coffee.

If civilization ever collapsed, I wouldn't miss electricity.

I'd miss coffee.

I stepped out of the black sedan with a paper cup in one hand and another cup balanced on the roof of the car.

Backup coffee.

Dew said drinking this much caffeine would eventually kill me.

I told him I'd send him a thank-you card from the afterlife.

Boom said I had "the emotional range of a courtroom bench."

I told him he charged people thousands of baht to stare at cameras.

Neither of us won.

"Professor Pond?"

A cheerful voice interrupted my internal debate.

The head of the Law Faculty hurried toward me with two lecturers trailing behind him.

"There you are! Welcome to Valencer Ridge University!"

I nodded politely.

"It's good to be here."

It wasn't a lie.

After years abroad, endless research, courtroom victories, and enough sleepless nights to make an owl concerned, teaching felt... peaceful.

Or at least that was the plan.

...

VRU was enormous.

Students flooded every walkway.

Bikes.

Golf carts.

Music from somewhere.

A suspicious number of people filming TikToks in front of the fountain.

Was higher education always this loud?

"Professor Pond!"

A girl gasped.

Another froze.

"Oh my God..."

"No way."

"HE'S REAL."

"..."

Why were they looking at me like I'd descended from heaven?

Within thirty seconds-

Whispers.

Phones.

More whispers.

"He looks even better than the university website."

"I thought they edited those photos."

"They UNDER-edited them."

"He's literally unfair."

"Law students are God's favorite."

"I suddenly want to switch majors."

"..."

I looked at the dean.

"Is this normal?"

He smiled awkwardly.

"They're... enthusiastic."

That was one word for it.

A group of lecturers walked past.
