As I walked down the street and turned the corner I could hear the Cathedral's pipe organ play. The bellowing bass notes harmonizing with its flute-like melodies. I went inside to escape the rain as the playing stopped and saw no one in sight. Taking the bench seat at the instrument, I flicked the metronome to play its constant rhythm.

Tick, tock.

Tick, tock.

Tick, tock.

The vibrations could be felt through my seat as melodies, harmonies, and bass began to form a haunting, yet comforting feeling in my soul. In the corner of my eye I saw a group of boys with the Chaplain gather.

"Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me. In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me," their sweet voices rang out as the Chaplain conducted them. We reached our ending crescendo and I turned to the Chaplain.

"You have a blessed talent, young man. We're looking for a new organ player, want the job?" the Chaplain asked.

"You don't know me from Adam and you're offering me to be your organ player? Just like that?" I replied.

"Well, by your military jacket I'm guessing you're a veteran now? Just got back with no luck of a job or housing?" he mentioned. I gave a nod as I hung my head.

"I work with Veterans and have even been to Afghanistan myself," he offered and shrugged, "I can help."

"Yes, thank you," I answered, "who was playing earlier though?"

The Chaplain's brow furrowed.
