Chapter One

It was early August. The last month of true summer. I was 18 this year, free of highschool and it's drama. Free of my parents' reign. Somewhat at the least. And for the last month of summer, I had signed up for a, I guess you could say, getaway. Or camp. Lake Haven campgrounds was much like an overnight camp for children with cabins. Most likely used as one. But the summer camp for kids started earlier this summer and for the last couple weeks of summer break, the camp was for public use. You could sign up to stay there. With family, or solo. If you were like me, you went solo. I got assigned a cabin with other women, our ages ranging. I liked that. I didn't feel restrained in a childish manner. These other women, some even in their 70s, (Though they were in wildly good shape, they must regularly visit.) treated me the same as they would treat anyone else. There weren't strict rules either. Of course the unspoken rules were there out of respect, but this really wasn't summer camp. Many of us were there to get away and learn a new self. Maybe even, find love. The dangers were there of course. But the risks felt freeing

The camp had so much to do. Swimming in the beautifully large lake, or the many pools scattered around, volleyball, tennis, pickleball, many other sports. There was a rec room, with many sorts of games. They had social events every week, a talent show, tournaments, crafts, even classes you could join, if you felt like spending the extra money. It was already quite a bit to spend, but I had somehow won a 3-week visit from my school in a way to wish me congratulations on graduating with top marks.

I arrived almost a week ago now. I knew my cabin mates enough to know their names and faces, but we mostly did our own thing. I took a morning walk as the sun just rose, feeling the morning dew. I went down to the dining hall and ate some of the mildly appetizing breakfast they offered. I waved hello to the other morning risers and did my part by being the friendly camper. Then I saw him.

Hello, Damien greenwich. What the man he was.

Tall, dark long hair, and eyes. Freckles scattering his skin like stars. The man was a gorgeous specimen. The crooked smile wooed even the older women of camp. He was the model camper every man wanted to be, and he was staff. Year round. He was there the entire summer and he was hot

And he noticed me.

"Hello, darling." He spoke with a grin. I could already feel the blush on my face. He stood at least a foot and a half taller than me. He was also 4 years older than me. But I was okay with that. I didn't get the issue with age gaps quite really. But yet again, that man is SO fine, even if I did have an issue, I wouldn't anymore. I'm a consenting adult anyways.

"Hello, good morning." I replied sweetly. "tell me this, Anna, I heard about your cabin being quite the noisy bunch last night. I can't have you being loud when we have quiet hours for a reason." He said with a husky undertone that only morning would bring, as well as maybe smoking. I chuckled. "Just a small celebration. Not really for anything... but you understand sometimes a woman wants to celebrate." I teased. He tsked and tilt his head downwards in a chuckle. "Oh, understood. But I must ask you to pay respect to the quiet hours assigned. Otherwise you may pay a fine." I nodded in understanding. " Of course." He smiled at me warmly. "Good. You have a good morning now, love." And he whisked away to do his early duties.

What a man he was. I know you must think he is charmed by me too, right? Despite the sweet names and gestures, it turns out he is much the polite man to all and everyone. And despite that too, it draws me in even more. With what has happened in the years before reopening I am so glad to see such a respectable gentleman bring back the sunshine this place deserved.
