I glared daggers at my father over the dinner table.
He had been going on and on about me being sent to some...Some powers program the government had been promoting, only once they acknowledged hybrid children.
The first few had been angels (I blame Christianity), then it had been mermaids, then demons. It had been going on for a few years. And now, they were looking for new soldiers.
"Bunny..." My father mumbled under his breath, putting his fork down on his plate.
I slammed my fork on my own plate, cracking the glass and making a loud clink. "Don't...Don't call me that. You don't get to call me that."
I felt the rush of heat in my veins as my hands started to catch on fire. Sighing, I went over to the freezer and held a few ice cubes in my hand, cooling it down and stopping the fire burning on my palms. I could already see the slight red burns forming on them.
My father sighed, standing up. "Aloe?" His eyes shown with relief when he saw it wasn't as bad as usual.
"Nah," I stared at the floor. "Just need bandages"
My father nodded. "Just...Just go pack? They'll be here tomorrow morning."
I whipped around. "You said...You said it was just a thought..." I felt tears pricking in the corners of my eyes.
My father didn't look me in the eyes. "They'll pay me until you turn 18, the training pay is more than what I make in a month," he finally looked up at me, though he was still talking quickly. "Then it...It doubles after, Bunny..."
"I told you..." Tears pricked in the corner of my eyes. "I told you I didn't want to kill people! I told you...I told you that-"
He looked at a picture on the fridge. He was a young man with a bright smile and black hair that had not started graying with age yet, standing next to a woman, my mother who had taken on a human appearance. He was in a phase where he grew out his long curly hair and beard. My mother left soon after my birth, I don't remember her, but in most pictures from their relationship, she had short pink hair and usually modest clothes.
"Dad!" I interrupted whenever he was thinking of. "I...The papers can't be signed already! You can back out!"
He got the guilty look in his eyes. "Bunny..."
"Y-You didn't sign them...Right?" I felt tears running down my cheeks.
"Bunny, I..."
I didn't look at him as I ran upstairs to my childhood bedroom. To...To the blue walls we had painted over the course of hours last year, to my height marks on the walls...To all the memories in this room, this house.
I didn't go back down that night, falling asleep while tears still fell down my cheeks.
