POV: Zuri
If you look closely enough at Kingston from the hills at night the city looks like it's burning a million tiny Amber lights flickering in the dark masking whatever madness is happening on the streets below.
"You're doing it again" Kaelen's smooth, deep voice cut through the quiet of the car.
I turned my head away from the passenger window meeting his dark eyes he was leaning against the steering wheel of his Mercedes, watching me with that heavy I'm unblinking intensity that always made my heart do a dangerous flip.
"Doing what?" I asked letting a small smile tug at my lips.
"Thinking too hard" he murmured, his fingers reaching out to gently brush a strand of hair behind my ear. his touch was warm, but his hands were rough the hands of a man who worked hard, though he never quite explained exactly what he did.
POV: Kaelen
I loved the way Zuri looked at the city. Clean. Innocent. She didn't see the blood on the asphalt or the politics managing the shipping docks. She just saw the beauty. and looking at her, I almost believed it existed too.
But my phone buzzed against my thigh, a sharp vibration that shattered that illusion. I pulled it out, looking down at the encrypted screen.
M-1: The shipment from Colombia just cleared the harbor. We have a leak in Sector 4. Get down here now.
M-1. Malik. My right hand, my most trusted brother in the syndicate and the one man who would put a bullet through my skull if he ever found out I was sitting at a lookout point with his little sister.
I am going to give the ones who don't understand patois that much some meanings.
