Welcome to a story about a girl who enters the magical world believing monsters will be easy to recognize.

Cassia Hale is Muggle-born, curious, warm, and entirely unprepared for the old cruelties waiting inside Hogwarts. Remus Lupin becomes the first person who makes that world feel safe. He remembers what frightens her, saves her a seat, carries her books, and returns from every unexplained absence loving her twice as fiercely.

Barty Crouch Jr. is interested in the parts of her everyone else considers ordinary. Her Muggle childhood. Her ignorance of blood politics. The objects she carries from home. The fact that she exists brightly in a world that has already decided what she is worth.

One boy will make affection feel like shelter.

The other will make obsession feel like honesty.

Neither feeling will remain harmless.

This story will follow Cassia from first through seventh year, so the characters, relationships, and tone will change as they grow. The earlier years will remain age-appropriate and focus on friendship, attachment, rivalry, first loyalties, and the beginnings of unhealthy patterns. Darker romance and sexual themes will appear only when the characters are older.

This is also not a story where Cassia exists solely to be wanted by two boys. She will have friendships, ambitions, anger, humour, mistakes, family, and a life beyond both relationships. Her brightness matters because the heart of the story is not simply who loves her.

It is what their love teaches her to believe about herself.

Expect slow burn, long-form character development, Marauders-era canon events, Muggle culture at Hogwarts, moonlit corridors, letters that arrive too often and then stop entirely, cursed reflections, ugly devotion, and people who know exactly where to touch an old wound.

Some characters may be darker, less sympathetic, or more morally compromised than their most common fanon portrayals. Remus will not be cruel because he does not care. Barty will not be fascinated because he is secretly harmless. Their feelings may be genuine, but genuine feelings do not make harmful actions safe.
