Kaiju No. 8 oneshots

1. Ten was lonely (fluff)

Hoshina was still recovering from injury when Okonogi got permission to relocate Numbers Weapon Ten into Hoshina's room. As per the suit's request because Hoshina was asleep and Ten didn't like being away from him.

This "dislike" manifested as it screaming for hours on end and repeatedly powering itself back on just to start bugging the technicians and analysts to let it see Hoshina. It got to the point where Okonogi was on her knees begging captain Ashiro to give her permission to move Ten into the vice captain's room.

Which, after reviewing the camera footage of the equipment room, the captain was willing to if the two had supervision. Reno ended up being the one in charge of supervision.

Unfortunately for him, the supervisor, Reno, was not prepared for Ten to start frantically checking Hoshina's wounds and making sure he was recovering properly from his injuries.

"So uhm, why is it-..." Reno was asking about Ten, mostly it shielding Hoshina from him and wagging its tail when Hoshina smiled and rubbed its forearm.

"Long story.." Hoshina didn't feel like explaining, especially not after everything he and Ten had been doing on the sidelines. "Just know that it's no longer a danger to humans and is no doubt on our side."

Reno nodded, watching Ten roll off Hoshina only to hold onto his injured side to protect it. Reno excused himself for a moment. Hoshina could overhear him talking with the captain via his earpiece, smiling when he came back and said that Ashiro was willing to leave them without supervision for the rest of the day.

Ten was quiet for a while, the only sound he was making was the barely audible humming it always made when content.

"Hey, Ten?" Hoshina broke the long, comfortable silence between them, keeping his breathing steady to help ease the aching in his ribs. His body still hurt but he had easy access to pain meds when he needed them.

Ten warbled, brushing Hoshina's hair away from his eyes. Its tail swaying happily behind it.

"Why were you so adamant on seeing me?" Hoshina looked more than confused about what caused it and why Ten wanted to see him so badly than anything else.

"You're in pain and I can still feel that pain even when we're separated. It gets worse when you try to move, and your pulse becomes erratic when it spikes and I hate it..." Ten usually wasn't this gentle when it spoke, even when it was telling Hoshina he needs to retreat back to base because he couldn't continue fighting due to the state he was in.

Hoshina hummed, clasping one of Ten's hands and kissing its palm. Ten purred at the affection.

"So you'll protect me outside of combat as well?" Hoshina asked, his tone was joking, teasing almost.

"It's not just that... I want to stay by your side and your side alone.." Ten turned and hid its eye against the bed, causing its voice to be muffled and losing its ability to see Hoshina's reaction. Not like it needed to see his face to know, the mental link never left once they routinely started hitting a one hundred precent sync rate.

It wants to stay with me, even when we aren't threatened by anything? Hoshina thought the notion was cute, even though Ten was never cute physically and has scared the living hell out of him before.

Ten tightened its grip on Hoshina a little, hugging him tighter for a moment as confirmation that it did, indeed, want to stay by his side.

That it wants him.

And Hoshina was fine with that, it felt similar, though he wasn't nearly as obsessive towards Ten as Ten was towards him, he still enjoyed the suit's company outside of combat.

"So you'll have me moved in here permanently?" Ten asked sheepishly, its tail thumping against the floor like an excited, metal Labrador.

"Yeah, gets pretty lonely in here and I can't imagine the equipment room being any better." Hoshina laughed, rubbing Ten's back and tracing the lines of its plating.

Ten purred, finally content to sleep now that it was reunited with and had easy access to its user.
