It's strange.
How one moment can change everything.
How that one moment, that one second you meet someone could change your life forever.
His father had showed up at his house.
Garrett Graham had avoided his fathers calls and text, so he had showed up at his front door.
He had gotten into his head and Garrett could not help the rage that shook him to the core.
During the game, he could not focus, the rage getting the better of him. John Logan had tried to calm him, though it had not worked. So there he walked, after storming out of the locker room.
Maya had gone to the hockey game with her roommate Bailey, to get away from the harsh reality that was her life, but there she was, pinned to the wall, hands around her neck. ''Let. Me. Go.'' She groaned, hitting his chest, trying to let go. ''You lying piece of shit!'' He bitterly said in her face. ''Let. Me. Go.'' She said as it began to be hard to breathe.
''Let her go!'' Another voice yelled and he flew off her. Maya fell to her knees, coughing as she tried to breathe. ''Hey, you alright?'' A voice said. She blinked as she looked up, tall, broad shoulders, dark hair... hockey player, number 44. ''No.'' She said, voice shaking. He put his hands on her waist, lifting her up before taking the hair out of her face.
''I got you, take it easy.'' He said to her in a calm voice. ''He'll just...'' She began to say but could not finish her sentence. ''He, uh, he'll show up at your dorm?'' He then asked, giving her a worried look. ''Yeah.'' She said, biting her lip, trying her best not to cry. ''Wait for me after the game.'' He said to her. ''I don't even know your name.'' Maya said, looking up at him. ''You don't know who I am?'' He asked, actually sounding surprised.
''Should I?'' She asked. ''Garrett Graham.'' He answered. ''Your the one everyone drools over?'' Maya asked. ''Kinda.'' He said back. ''I'll wait for you, 44.'' She said.
Of course Maya was worried. She had lived with worry and stress for months, he had been nice in the beginning, but the calmness and kindness had been a facade. Then one night, the monster within him had shown.
Maya felt slightly guilty when she saw Garrett walk out with his friends, hide, do something, she said to herself, she felt embarrassed, he might even forget she was waiting for him. The smile on his face when his eyes landed on her made her entire body still, goosebumps.
''Hey.'' He said, smiling at her. ''I don't want to bother you and your friends.'' She said to him. ''I want to, I insist.'' He told her. She wanted to believe him, but another part of her did not want to be like all the other girls who threw themselves at him.
Garrett's room was cleaner than she thought it would. Everything looked like they had their right place. ''Who was he?'' His words made her freeze in place, she turned to look at him, trying her best not to cry. ''My ex. He was not very nice.'' She shared. ''Stay here as long as you like, I can take the floor.'' He offered. ''You were the one who played hockey all day.'' Maya told him. ''I'm alright with sharing if you are.'' He then said. ''Okay.'' She answered.
''The boys may be a bit hectic at times, might tease and joke around.'' He shared as he handed her one of his shirts. Maya felt exhausted, so she did not really think as she began to lift her shirt up. ''Woah, what is that scar?'' Garrett's question made her freeze in place. She shook out of it and took her shirt off. Being in a bra was basically the same as being in a bikini. ''I'm a bathing suit person for a reason.'' Maya said to him, putting the shirt over her head.
Garrett walked over to her, wrapping his arms around her. ''I'm not that sad.'' She said into the hug. ''Maybe it's me who needed the hug.''
