SYDNEY CLARKE MAXWELL has spent the last two years making a name for herself out in the world, following in her big stepsister's footsteps. After filming two seasons for her television series and starring in a Broadway and West End show, Sydney is finally ready to take a break, settle down and experience what life for normal girls is like. Well— as much normality as she can hope to experience when most of the world has watched her, anyway.
And then, of course, there's GARRETT GRAHAM. Much like Sydney Clarke, Garrett is all too used to the fame and the flashing lights that come with being the son of the legendary Phil Graham, and with being Briar University's star ice hockey captain. Graham is ever the notorious player, and it seems to be that fire spreads to every path he goes along.
After having done the last two years of college mostly online and on long haul airport flights, Sydney is determined to make her junior year the best and most fulfilling year of education yet. She's ready to experience college: staying up to study for midterms, making out with random guys, making friends with girls in the bathrooms after asking to borrow their lipgloss and going to football games. That is, until, Beau Maxwell, her beloved stepbrother, decides to throw a 'Welcome Back' party just for Sydney and invites every single junior and senior attending Briar over.
Her hopes of living a semi-normal life are essentially crushed when most of the girls who approach her are only interested in her career and who she can hook them up with, and the guys are no better. It's at this party that she stumbles upon Garrett Graham— and the two get along like fire and ice. In fact, their first introduction could not get any worse.
Sydney vows to never involve herself with a hockey player after her unpleasant encounter with Graham, but with Beau Maxwell ever present in her life the task seems impossibly difficult. Try as she might, Sydney Clarke becomes embroiled in the drama that comes with being associated with Garrett Graham, and there is no escape.
