Clint was sitting in school bored out of his mind. He was currently sat against boxes which were covering the windows since two gangs decided to Duke it out on the playground.
He looked out the window to see some greasers throwing glass bottles probably liquor he thought he saw his brother drink out of bottles sometimes when he thought Clint was asleep. Clint notices a short boy around 5'6 with blond hair and a brown bag round his shoulder.
"He looks familiar" Clint thought moving stealthily closer to the window to see clearer.
"Clinton get under your desk" his teacher Mr Beckham hissed the man himself was cowered underneath his desk.
"But..." he started then bam a glass hit the window and it began to crack someone grabbed Clint's arm and pulled him under a desk.
He heard knocking on the door and Mr Beckham opened it out there stood Clint's brother Patrick he was tall broad shouldered and was lean from working out in the hot sun he came to pick Clint up since there was a gang fight starting outside.
"Cmon Clint" he said bending a bit to not be seen by the increasingly loud fight.
"Patrick!"Clint said happily walking to him.
"Shh get in the car" he says leading him to the door and they left.
On the ride home Patrick told him to not join a gang because then the cops would take him away.
"No they wouldn't" Clint said unbelieving.
"They would haul you to jail your pretty light so they can pick you up and it's no more patty and Clint" Patrick said driving straight.
"Sure" Clint muttered as they arrived to the house.
The house wasn't a big place it had stuff littered in the front and tiles crooked on the roof. Inside there were pizza boxes lying around a busted up red couch and a dirty mattress in Patrick and Clint's room. It wasn't welcoming but it was their home.
"Pizza for dinner kid" Patrick said as they walked in.
" any company today?" Clint asked usually some neighbor kids would hang there while their parents fought over why they were living in dumps.
"Not today kiddo there's cops everywhere the second someone fights they get their kids taken away or something I don't want to try." Patrick responded taking off his shoes and settling into the couch.
"This isn't as good and cool as the movies show." Clint muttered as he snuggled into Patrick.
"Because they romanticize being poor and in gangs like some people when they read the outsiders you remember that book they only show the fun bits not the deep down grueling harsh life. There's no repeats here just doing you can't just pretend everything's okay because it isn't we are one day away from being separated and in going to start crying because i can't have you go." Patrick said on the brink of tears.
"I don't want to go either and I promise I will never be in a gang no matter what." He promised.
"This is why you're my favorite brother." Patrick grinned slightly.
"I'm your only brother." Clint responded to him.
Gunshots ring out and Patrick pulls Clint to the floor. A loud motor noise rings out making Clint squeeze his eyes shut. Police sirens wail as they drive past their house.
"I'm so scared Patrick I'm so freaking scared." Clint sobbed burying his face in his chest.
"I'm here I'm here..." Patrick patted his back softly.
"Police open up." A voice outside said.
Patrick got up and opened the door outside stood a police man and he stared at Patrick.
"NYPD I heard your harboring a fugitive." The man said crossing his arms.
"No I'm not I just have my kid brother he didn't do anything he's innocent I swear he coolant hurt a fly he's my baby I can't live without him." Patrick blurted out.
"Well your baby was at the scene of a big fight we have to take him into custody." The police said walking in
"He really is innocent he was at school he wasn't even near the fight." Patrick told the officer begging please not him not his reason to keep working normally. Not him and his parents both.
"Patrick?" Clint asked scared.
"It'll be okay baby they are just taking you in for questioning..." Patrick said trying to be hopeful and calm.
As Clint got put in handcuffs and walked away into the police car Patrick let out a shaky sigh.
"I'll get you back kid." He promised his whole body racking with more sobs.
Clint was sat in a cold and sterile room that had a glass window and a chair to speak out of.
"Do you know how the fight started?" The man behind the glass asked.
"I think it was about which gang got which territory and they couldn't decide on who got the park near 25th street and so they began fighting." Clint said unsure.
"Are you sure it was just territory disputes and not anything bigger at play?" The man asks looking at him directly.
"Yes I am positive that the fight was about territorial disputes and nothing more." Clint responded clearly.
"Do you live in a broken home?" He got asked.
"No my brother gives me the best life I can have and I feel like I deserve the life I got." Clint said.
"Are your parents around?" The officer asked.
"No my parents died from cancer." Clint said back.
"That's all the questions we have for you you may go to your brother now." The man said waving him off.
Clint got up to see his brother outside the door.
"Patrick!" He cheered hugging him his body melting into his arms.
"I thought you were going to be taken again." Patrick said hugging him tight.
"They won't if I have anything to say about it." Clint joked.
The drive home was quiet Clint knew Patrick just wanted to feel Clint next to him and not feel like Clint was going to be taken away or in harm.
For dinner they had meatloaf Patrick ate a little and gave more food on Clint's plate.
"You're a growing boy" he said smiling.
Patrick adored Clint and he knew that. He was his only baby brother and he would protect him from the world if he could.
