~Chapter 1~
People have said that I had an "interesting" taste in the people that I dated. Others have said that I should just find one guy and settle down already since I was already 26 years old. Now, I've dated people of all different kinds: from good boys to bad boys, nerds to emos, and from class clowns to boys with problems.
Some people say that I am too trusting because some people put fake profile pictures or information on their dating profiles to make themselves seem more interesting than they actually were, but I loved the thrill of each adventure with each boy that I dated even though their profiles didn't match their actual personalities. The variety was beyond its limits and I had yet to find more people that interested me.
September 8th, 2001.
The exact date that I decided to join an online dating site. The most popular of which was a website called Miscellaneous. People of different kinds, ethnicities, and personalities made up the sight. The sight had become a big part of my life and that's where I landed my first ever actual date after I graduated college.
-FLASHBACK-
"Hmm this looks like an interesting guy," I muttered to myself. It had been a day since I made my account for Miscellaneous and I had guys already lined up to go on dates with.
I stared at this guys profile. His pictures seemed to portray who he was perfectly. He had green eyes with a light short brunette hair. His smile was small in the picture and he seemed at ease with himself at that moment. The man interested me and caused me to look further into his profile at his likes and dislikes and basic information about him.
Name: Ronnie Trueman
Age: 25
Interests: Computer programming, reading, library, studying, walks on the beach
Dislikes: Messes, unorganized things, partying, loud music
I read through his profile and smiled as I realized just what kind of person he was, a nerd. Now I was 24 at this time so he was a good year older than me but I didn't mind. After all the age difference wasn't much of a big deal as it was if you were in middle school or high school.
I messaged him that night, asking him on a date. He happily agreed and we decided to meet at the coffee shop down the street the following day.
The next day, I arrived at the coffee shop right on time and spotted a guy that matched his profile picture sitting at the table, sipping his coffee. I could see the white from his hands as he gripped tightly onto the cup.
It had been freezing outside that day and I could tell he was trying to warm up his hands with the warmth of the coffee. I unwrapped the scarf from around my neck and proceeded towards the table. I took a seat across from him and offered a smile when he looked up.
He recognized me from the profile picture, I figured, when his eyes lit up and he returned the smile. "Savina, right?" He asked, his pearly white teeth practically shining.
I nodded. "Ronnie?"
He nodded as well. "I was going to get you a coffee but I wasn't sure what you wanted."
"A latte would be nice," I told him, giving him a grateful smile as he got up and walked over to the line that was formed in front of the cash register.
After he came back with the latte, we started talking, getting to know each other. Once we finished up our drinks, we decided to take a walk in the park. It was starting to get dark outside but it wasn't to the point where you couldn't see yet.
"I read on your profile that you liked walks on the beach," I pointed out as we walked side by side, our winter coats hugged out bodies as the scarf, gloves, and hat helped to keep us warm. "I figured walking in the park was just as good."
He grinned. "It is," he agreed.
As we continued to walk deeper into the park, I remembered a secret hidden route that took us directly to a cliff. I had remembered it to be a beautiful sight and I didn't know why I was excited to show it to Ronnie. I mean, I have never brought anyone to this place. It was like my little secret hiding place where I'd come when the pressure from my friends and family was too much.
"Where are we going?" He asked, hesitance was present in his actions as he stood frozen watching me as I went in the direction of the dark forest that contained a small opening.
"C'mon trust me," I replied simply, not wanting to spoil the surprise of the wonderful view that lied before us deep within the forest.
He nodded hesitantly as he reluctantly took my outstretched hand. I pulled him towards me with a smile as we started walking into the dark forest.
"Are you sure about this?" He asked again, sounding nervous. "Where are we going?"
I gave him a mischievous smile. "On an adventure."
-END OF FLASHBACK-
I smiled at the memory. I had dated many more people after Ronnie and I hadn't seen him again after we stopped dating. He was my first experience on a dating website and he caused me to start using the website more and more.
I picked the button that directed me to my profile. My eyes scanned through the profile I had made two years ago and smiled in content because it was exactly how I wanted it to me. Not a lot of information, but enough. Enough to draw people towards me and start a conversation.
Name: Savina Conwell
Age: 26
Interests: Adventure
Dislikes: Boredom
My profile picture was of me with my hands covering my mouth, only my big and bright rare violet colored eyes showing. My long curly black hair fell on the sides of my face and passed my shoulders. It looked mysterious and described my entire personality perfectly.
I went back to my home page and scrolled through the different people. I stopped as I settled on someone who caught my attention.
Name: Ryder Gabriels
Age: 26
Interests: Mysteries, reading, comedies, Netflix, tattoos
Dislikes: Boredom
I stared as his profile more, trying to gauge the person he actually was, but nothing came up. I was trying to fit him into a category but I couldn't seem to find one that he fit into. He was like a mixture of all of them: a little bit of a nerdy side that liked comedies. He had a bad boy side who liked tattoos and mysteries.
I took a look at his profile picture. Black hair and formed a quiff-like thing at the top of his head and bright electric blue eyes. I was intrigued by his mysterious character as I continued staring at his picture.
Finally, gathering back my senses, I sent him a quick and simple message that could possibly change my life forever.
Hey. -Savina Conwell.
