Tawan walked with confidence. At least, that's what anyone watching would see.
His steps were steady, measured. His shoulders straight, his gaze forward. He looked like someone who belonged in a place like this-inside a building of glass walls, quiet authority, and people who moved with purpose.
But beneath that calm exterior, his thoughts refused to settle.
He was nervous.
Not the kind that showed in shaking hands or uneven breathing. No. Tawan had learned long ago how to keep that hidden. This was quieter, deeper. The kind that sat in his chest and tightened with every step forward.
He didn't want to work like this.
Didn't want to enter a company through connections he didn't earn on his own. Didn't want to feel like every glance carried an unspoken assumption-that he was only here because of who he knew.
But he had no choice.
This opportunity mattered. More than his pride, more than his discomfort. And refusing it wouldn't change anything, except close a door he might not get again.
So he showed up.
Tawan paused briefly at the front desk, offering a polite smile to the receptionist. "Good morning. I'm Tawan. I was told to report today."
She glanced at her screen, then back at him with a nod. "Yes, we've been expecting you. You'll be assisting on the executive floor. Take the elevator to the twenty-third-someone will be there to guide you."
"Thank you."
Simple. Professional. Normal.
That's what this was supposed to be.
He turned toward the elevators, pressing the button with fingers that felt steadier than he expected. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad. Maybe.
The doors slid open.
Tawan stepped inside, alone for a moment, and pressed his floor. The soft hum of the elevator filled the silence as the doors began to close.
And then.
It stopped.
A hand slipped between the narrowing gap, forcing them open again.
Tawan looked up.
The man who entered didn't need to say anything to command the space. It was there in the way he carried himself-controlled, precise, entirely self-contained. His expression was neutral, but not empty. There was something behind it. Something sharp.
He looked... familiar.
Tawan's breath caught, just for a second.
Narin.
It took everything in him not to react.
Years had passed since the last time he'd seen him, back when things had been simpler, lighter. Back when Narin wasn't this... distant.
Back when he wasn't the CEO.
Now, standing only a few steps away, Narin looked different. Older, yes. But more than that. Colder. Refined in a way that made him feel completely out of reach.
Untouchable.
Tawan looked away first.
He lowered his gaze slightly, pretending to check his phone, though the screen remained dark. Anything to avoid being caught staring.
Narin didn't acknowledge him.
Not a word. Not a glance.
The elevator doors closed again, and the silence returned, but this time, it felt heavier.
