~Mister Evan King 💙👑
I could feel everyone's eyes glued to me. The golden sun spilled beautifully along the walls. People sat in their chairs and chatted amongst themselves. But it felt like it was nothing but me on the tip of those tongues.
I lowered my eyes and adjusted the shades that sat along my face. I made sure my hat was on just tight enough. And I wiped the sweat that was turning my palms into pools.
"Next please," said the lady behind the counter. She looked like she was in about her fourties maybe. I walked up and almost choked the words out of my mouth.
"Uhm, can I get an iced tea?" I asked.
"Sure. Would you like that sweet or unsweetened?" She asked. Her face appeared a little more flat than I expected. I assumed she'd been working all day.
"Just an iced tea," I replied.
She stared blankly at me.
"Okay, but sweet or unsweetened?"
"Oh! Uh-sweet please. I'm sorry. Weekends, am I right? It's more of my rest day, so I guess my mind's not all awake yet." I laughed but there wasn't even a single tug at the corner of her mouth.
The receipt printed and she stared at me with a blank expression. She glanced at it. I'm guessing for those points that lots of convenience stores like to give out. Her eyes suddenly jumped back up to connect with mine.
"Caden... wait, you're Prince Caden!" Well shit. Might as well yell it out to the whole world. Her voice was loud and I could feel the entire room grow silent. The vibe shifted instantly.
I quickly pushed my shades back over my eyes. I stayed quiet and grabbed my cup of tea. They were quick with getting your drink order out. The crowd of people began to surround me. Gosh, it felt like walking into a trap of paparazzi. Everyone was already asking for pictures or to sign their dirty little hand napkins.
"Okay! Yes, hi! Look, I have to get back to my house, okay? My parents are waiting for me! I love you guys though!" But of course, all of those words were going in one ear and out the other.
Yes, I'm Caden Andrews. Prince Caden. I'm from a family of Royals. But we're magical Royals. Royalty in the family line, yet with a certain magical ability that gets passed down each generation.
Unfortunately, I haven't received mine.
My parents received their abilities when they were about sixteen. I'm officially eighteen and there hasn't been a single drop of any ability.
I'm the kind of guy that sort of just keeps to myself. I like to play video-games. Pig out when eating sometimes, workout occasionally, go read a book in the sun, and sometimes just have fun. The title of being a Royal has had its ups and downs throughout the years, so life has me a lot to myself. Sometimes I can't even grab a McDouble without it turning into a whole mini interview with the workers. And nothing like being taunted at the fact that I'm a Royal with no abilities to put that cherry on top!
I have hoped everyday that I could find something much more than all of this chaos. A chance to feel like I belong somewhere.
👑
By the time I had reached home, I stepped into the house. Covered in royal green. Plants, pillows, silverware. Even most of the picture frames were of green. The house was always so warm and welcoming.
