"Michelle, we need to talk!" Michelle's mother, Vivienne, shouted from the bottom of the stairs. "what is it?!" Michelle yelled from her room, pausing the cassette playing on her dresser.
"come down here!" Vivienne shouted. Michelle sighed and pulled a sweater over her head, trudging downstairs to where her mother was standing, impatiently tapping her foot on the wooden flooring of their Seattle home.
"what did you need?" Michelle asked from the middle of the stairs.
"me and your father need to talk to you."
"okay? can you do it now? i was busy." Michelle said with sass.
"stop with that attitude, missy." Vivienne said as she walked away, Michelle following.
Michelle rolled her eyes.
As Michelle and her mother walked into the kitchen where her father, David, was standing. He tapped his heel against the kitchen counters as he spoke into the phone.
"when do we need to be there?" he said quickly. Michelle looked at her mother, puzzled.
be where? Michelle thought.
"when can we move in?" David asked, jotting something down on a notebook in front of him.
Soon David hung up and turned to Michelle and Vivienne.
"pack your stuff, we're leaving Seattle." ————————————————————————

———————————————————————— In Arlington, Massachusetts, it was different.
Lydia Ryde was sitting on the floor of her messy room, smoking a blunt and getting high out of her mind.
Her father, Patrick, smelled it and came barging into her room, snatching the blunt from between her fingers and stomping it on the ground.
"the fuck? that was expensive." Lydia slurred, standing up to face her dad. "Dia, you gotta stop this, please." her father pleaded quickly.
Lydia's face changed, ranging from hurt to sadness. Lydia didn't want to see her father sad because of her own doing.
"sorry." she mumbled, looking at the floor, kicking a lighter under her bed. "Lydia, sweetheart, we're getting new neighbours and i can't have them thinking you're some drug addict who has a dream of becoming a rockstar." Patrick hesitantly said, not knowing if he was crossing a line or not.
"it's not a dream. it's real." Lydia said, glancing over to the multiple guitars crammed in the corner of her weed smelling room.
"you'll get there one day, just not today," Patrick said, rubbing his daughter's shoulder, "i need you to go to school so can you please get dressed?"
"it's eleven a.m., dad. there's no point of going in." she sighed.
"Lydia, you need to go to school. we got mail saying you were gonna get expelled if you missed another week."
Lydia's head snapped up. "we did?! when?"
"...last week." said Patrick. "you're lying, aren't you?" Lydia knew when her dad was lying and this was one of the times.
"just please go to school." he finally pleaded.
"fine." Lydia didn't like disappointing her family, or dad, more so. ————————————————————————
