Summer break

Raw sunlight was hitting Jade's face exposing her soft features. The intensive light forced her to open her eyes slowly.
"Fuck.." She said in her mind, while rubbing her eyes. It was summer, the season she hated the most. Even though she didn't feel like going out, or see anyone she knew she couldn't stay at home. Jade sat up on the bed and stared at the wall in front of her, it was filled with drawings from her early days. The colourful pictures of sunsets, and portraits of made up people.
She stood up and stumbled to them and stared at them even more intensively than before. She always enjoyed expressing herself in any artistic way possible, but one day she dropped the pencil and never picked it up again.

-BZZZ-
A sound echoed through the room from behind. She quickly turned around and picked up her phone.
"It's 3PM already?" She said surprised. A text.. It was from her best friend Cassie.
Jade and Cassie were best friends ever since second grade. She took her as her sister, as her other half and somebody that was basically her but in another body, from another mother. Everywhere anybody went you would see them together all the time. Jade smiled and opened the message.

"Are you awake?" - C

Oh shit. Jade facepalmed. She totally forgot that they were supposed to go out together.

"Yeah sorry fell asleep." - J
"It's okay i'm with him already :)" - C

Jade picked her head up from her phone, and immediately started typing again.

"You are joking right?" - J

She couldn't believe it. Jade threw her phone on the bed and made her way to the bathroom. She busted the door open and went to her sink to wash her teeth.
This was the only thing that pissed her off about Cassie. She would do anything for male validation, anything to feel loved even if she was just being used, but at the same time she understood why. Cassie never got along with her parents.
Jade spit out the toothpaste after long time of thinking and dried up her face. She picked her head up from the sink and looked in the mirror. She never really liked her features, her eyes, her smile, she always wished she would look like those girls that were always the first choice.
Jade shook her head in realisation and walked back to her room that was already hot and hard to breathe in from the hot weather.. and instantly picked up her phone from the edge of the bed.

"What?" -  C

"What do you mean what?" Jade said out loud and rolled her eyes.

"Where are you?" - J

"The flats." - C

30 MINUTES LATER

It was scorching heat and Jade felt like she was about to melt in any second. Few more minutes until she will see Cassie with ... him. Jade cut the pavement to the grass and saw Cassie sitting at a bench with Tom, her legs crossed and a stupid smile on her face. Jade sighed and continued walking towards them.

"Hey.." She said in a awkward tone.
"Hey!!" Cassie said in the happiest tone.
Tom didn't say anything. Jade switched to looking at him and raised her eyebrows.

"Acting like you don't know me?" She said arrogantly. Tom just smiled and shook his head.
"Sorry, yeah hi." He said after few minutes of embarrassing silence. Jade smiled and looked back at Cassie that was just staring at both of them like they were the dumbest people she ever met.

"Yeah okay uh.. Tom brought the bottle by the way..." She said and was switching her eyes to Tom and back at Jade.
"Okay.. here you go." Jade said and reached in her pocket for a 5 dollar bill.
Tom took it immediately and folded it into his pockets. He hit his knees and stood up like he was owning the place.
"Well my job is done here, you two enjoy." Tom said and walked off to the distance. Jade didn't pay any attention to that, what was she more interested in was Cassie's luring gaze at him. She sat next to her dramatically and turned to her to cover him.

"I know ya'll weren't out just because of a dumb bottle." She said and looked at Cassie with a suspicious gaze.
Cassie just smiled and shrugged her shoulders. "I have a boyfriend." She said and smiled even more deviously than before. Right... Jade totally forgot about Victor.

"He is okay with this..?" She said and looked at Cassie's hands that were holding onto the bottle for dear life.
Cassie's gaze dropped to her thighs and looked back at Jade with a guilty look.

"He doesn't know.." She said and giggled nervously. Jade sighed.
"You know that he's a good guy for you, but instead you hang out with this dealer and drug addict?" She said. "..and my failed talking stage." Jade said in her mind. Cassie always had a thing for any boy she talked to, and always won. She was perfect for any teenage boy in this town. Short, brunette, naive and careless.

"Whatever.." Cassie said and put her hand on Jade's shoulder. "We have alcohol, that's more important for now i think."
A bright smile formed on Jade's face. Anything that would make her forget things she couldn't handle, anything that calmed the thoughts that haunted her at night. Cassie stood up lightly and looked around.

"We actually can drink here too but i thought Tracy and Maria was going with us."
Jade's mood instantly got ruined by just hearing the name Tracy.

"I mean sure i guess." She said and just accepted it. Tracy was that type of girl that would have you running around the whole town while police cars are chasing you for something she did, but at the end of the day she convinced you all of it was your fault. It would be also maybe worth mentioning how they always argued because Jade wasn't dumb enough to fall for her mind traps.

Cassie pulled out her phone and walked off to the distance to take an call. Jade didn't hear much, just muffled words but something about someone coming here. Cassie hit the side of her thigh with her phone and turned to Jade with annoyed expression.

"If Tracy comes then her friend too.. you know who."

So many people and all of the wrong names, could've been better if they just stayed as a duo.

10 MINUTES LATER

Jade and Cassie were still waiting between the flats sitting on a bench that was facing a playground that was half destroyed and even more flats surrounding it like a maze.
"I remember when i was little i used to play on that swing all the time." Cassie said and pointed at a swing on a hill, that was made of metal.

"Remember when we were like 12 and i pushed you down the slide and your pants ripped?" Jade said and started laughing loudly. Cassie hit her and smiled in embarrassment and covered her face in her hands.
"Sadly i do, it was so cold too." She said and picked her head up. Jade's gaze wandered to the small pavement leading from the other side to two girls walking together. It was Tracy and Biana. Somehow Tracy and Biana were a well known duo in this town too. You could recognise them from a mile, Tracy always wore jorts that were almost covering her knees and any random designer shirt and a hat covering her face at all times. Biana was the same, the only difference was that Tracy was dark brown haired and Biana had blond short hair.
Cassie waved excitedly and Tracy showed her the middle finger.
"Okay fuck you too!" Cassie yelled and giggled.

Tracy started fast walking and made her way quickly to them leaving Biana behind.
"Hey." She said and smirked. Tracy looked at Jade and her smile dropped.
"Hi." She said quietly and quickly looked behind her at Biana.

Biana walked dramatically towards them and pinched Tracy in her sides.
"Ouch" She yelled and slapped Biana in a friendly way.

Cassie stood up and exposed the bottle from behind her back. Tracy gasped and immediately took the bottle and hugged it. Jade laughed and shook her head in dissappointment.

"You asked Victor to buy it?" Biana said in a suspicious tone and looked sneakily at Jade. They both knew what was between Tom and Cassie.
Cassie's cheeks flushed. Biana's eyebrows furrowed.

"You cannot be serious." She said and sighed dramatically. Cassie threw her hands around.
"And what? This is my life why are ya'll acting like you control my life, i can be with anyone i want, and this is not even important right now, look what is Tracy holding." She yelled.

"Chill out.. just a question." Biana said and rolled her eyes. Jade's lips formed into a line and stared around her awkwardly. "Sooo are we going..?" She said to break off the bad atmosphere.
