Chapter 1
The Girl by the Han River
The city never truly slept.
Even at two in the morning, the lights of Seoul reflected across the Han River like scattered stars, painting the dark water with shades of gold and silver.
Most people would have been asleep by now.
Ji-ah wasn't one of them.
Sitting on a quiet bench near the river, she adjusted her sketchbook on her lap and brushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear. The cool night breeze carried the distant sounds of traffic, but she barely noticed.
Her attention was focused entirely on the drawing in front of her.
This had become a routine.
Every night after finishing her assignments, she would come to the Han River with her sketchbook and spend hours drawing whatever inspired her.
Sometimes it was the city skyline.
Sometimes it was strangers passing by.
And sometimes...
It was the people she admired.
A small smile appeared on her lips as her pencil moved across the page.
She carefully shaded the eyes of the person she was drawing, making sure every detail looked perfect.
After all, she had spent years looking at countless photos of him.
Getting the details right mattered.
"Hmm..."
She tilted her head, studying the sketch.
"Almost done."
Unaware of the fact that someone was standing a few steps behind her.
Watching.
Hwang Hyunjin had never liked sleepless nights.
No matter how exhausted he was, there were times when sleep simply refused to come.
Tonight happened to be one of those nights.
After tossing and turning for nearly an hour, he had finally given up and left the dorm for a walk.
The cool air usually helped clear his mind.
But what caught his attention wasn't the river.
It wasn't the city lights either.
It was a girl.
Sitting alone at this hour.
Drawing.
Curious, he slowly walked closer.
At first, he only wanted to see what she was sketching.
But the moment he caught sight of the page...
He froze.
Because the person staring back at him from the sketchbook looked very familiar.
In fact...
It looked exactly like him.
His eyes widened slightly.
"Wait..."
The sudden voice made Ji-ah jump.
Her pencil slipped from her fingers.
She quickly turned around.
And nearly stopped breathing.
Standing behind her was the very person she had been drawing.
Hwang Hyunjin.
