It was unfortunately very true, and just one more reason why immortals didn’t walk the earth anymore, so they didn’t get attached to anything. Mortals were so easily killed, manipulated, and the Gods and their need for power wouldn’t think twice not to use one god’s affection for a certain mortal against them. Namely by killing them or threatening to kill them. At least that’s how it was, once they retreated to their realm of choice then the mortals of the gods’ eyes were pretty much struck down on sight. They might be pretty apathetic to the other, but one thing they were agreement on was they didn’t want any more demigods running around that they had to share their fleeting glory with.
But at least Gage knew that much, that nobody could hold Sera’s life over his head, because he was going to kill her one way or another. Plus they wouldn’t have to worry about him creating a lesser demon via the old fashioned way being sterile. And it wasn’t like it was ever a problem before because he was the one doing the killing of the mortals anyway, definitely no connection there.
Before…
He needed to talk to Death, get all the information out of her he could-
A knock came at the door and Gage decided then and there he was going to knock Fate out.
The handle rattled as whoever was there tried to open the door, but before Gage could get up Death slammed a palm against it with a thud, shutting it back on the would be intruder and flipping the lock.
It was a big no-no. By that one action she had just interfered with the lives of all involved, sending a ripple through time that would alter every event from here after. It might seem insignificant right now, but a hundred years from now a war could start because someone wasn’t where they should have been by mere moments to stop something as simple as an argument between friends.
But Death knew that, and as she did she stuck her middle finger up to the ceiling, her eyes alight with humor as they looked above her.
Seemed she was more than aware of Fate, her sister, games.
Gage was aware of that butterfly effect too, knew with every life he took he changed the future. But that was the point. He was trying to work the future in Lucifer’s favor...Michael knew this too which is why he tried to interfere. But how was this one life he held in his arms, in his hands, responsible for untold more and their favorable futures. Without her they would all be lost he had said, and that would most certainly play to Lucifer’s favor-
“Monsieur,” a voice called though the door.
Knock her the fuck out.
“Don’t worry, I tell her to get off your case when were done here,” Death said with a grin, “but to thank me it would be nice if you could pull it together long enough to answer the door.”
He nodded to her as Sera picked a heavy head up to look at the door, “the waiter?” she frowned.
“Seems so,” he gave her a tight smile, “wait here for me though?”
“Okay,” she nodded and slid out of his arms, leaning her limp self back against the bench.
Okay? Since when was she compliant for him?
He shook it off and buckled his belt back up before he and Death traded places, no need to give the human the wrong idea.
“Want me to stick around?” Death asked as he opened the door the barest of inches.
