The sun burned high in the sky, turning the world below into a sea of heat and light. The desert stretched endlessly in every direction, as if it had no beginning and no end.
Among the drifting winds and shifting sands, a black crow flew alone.
His name was Kael.
Unlike the others, Kael was not careless or loud. He watched. He thought. He questioned everything he saw. But today, thinking was no longer enough.
Today, he was surviving.
His throat was dry. His wings felt heavy. For days, he had found nothing but empty skies and burning land.
"Just a drop..." Kael whispered to himself. "Just one drop of water..."
But the desert did not answer.
No rivers. No trees. No shade.
Only silence.
Hours passed.
Kael's strength slowly faded as he flew lower, scanning the ground for anything that might save him. Every shadow looked like hope. Every shimmer looked like water.
But each time, it was nothing.
Still, he did not stop.
Then, far ahead, something appeared.
A faint glimmer.
Kael's heart tightened.
"Water..." he thought.
Gathering the last of his strength, he descended toward it.
When he landed, he saw an old stone vessel cracked by time and heat. Inside it was water-real water-but very little of it.
Kael stepped closer.
His eyes locked onto it immediately.
But his beak could not reach.
The water was too deep.
He tried again. Leaned forward. Changed his angle. Nothing worked.
Kael stepped back slowly.
The desert was empty around him. No help. No sound. No escape.
And in that moment, he realized something:
This was not just thirst.
It was a test.
Kael looked around.
Then down at the stones scattered near the vessel.
He paused.
And thought deeply.
"If I cannot reach the water," he whispered, "then I must bring the water closer to me."
He lowered his head and picked up the first stone.
And dropped it into the vessel.
A soft plunk echoed in the silence.
Kael did not know it yet...
But this moment would change everything.
