The rain fell gently against the cracked window. "Hiva" was sitting in the corner of the room, looking outside. She was eighteen years old, but life had made her feel much older than her age.
They lived in a small house on the edge of the village. Her father was ill, and her mother worked in people's homes. Every morning, Hiva went to school without breakfast, or sometimes with only a piece of dry bread.
Even though she was poor, her dreams were not poor. Many nights, when everyone else was asleep, she would sit under the light of a small lamp, reading books and imagining that one day she would change her life.
But life was harsher than she had expected.
At the age of nineteen, she was forced to leave school. There was no money. Her mother cried and begged her to stay at home. That night, Hiva did not sleep until morning. She felt like her dreams were slowly dying
