Kelly's POV

"Kelly!" Violet screamed my name from down the hallway. "Are you ready for class? We have AP Lit."

"Yeah, I am. Let's go."

At lunch, Violet and I were sitting in our usual spot, just talking about random things, when it occurred to me that I hadn't told her I had plans with my dad that evening.

"Hey, Vi, I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier, but I have plans with my dad this evening."

"Yeah, no problem. It's not like we have anything planned."

"I know. I just wanted you to know in case something comes up."

"Yeah, okay, my rich bestie."

I smiled knowingly at the nickname. She only used it when she was in her usual teasing mood-which, come to think of it, was almost every day.

As we bent our heads to continue with our lunch, my mind drifted back to how I saw myself the year before.

I thought I was one of those typical high school girls. But being rich and all didn't exactly allow me to blend into the crowd. At first, I made sure no one knew about my wealth, but that didn't last long because of my branded clothes and other expensive stuff.

In the beginning, most people at school chose to ignore me. It was around that time that Violet and I met.

Violet and I were what you'd call fast friends. Honestly, at first, I was hesitant about us becoming friends, but with time, we became so fond of each other that we were literally like two peas in a pod. We did almost everything together. We ate lunch together, studied together, and even had lockers right beside each other.

At the beginning of our friendship, I didn't tell Violet about my wealthy background. Most of the time, I felt guilty about keeping it from her, but what could I do? I really hated attention, and I didn't know if she was being genuine.

It wasn't like I didn't trust her or was trying to test her, but our friendship was still new, and honestly, I didn't want someone liking me or being friends with me just because I had money. It didn't sit well with me.

The guilt ate at me until I finally put up a hard front and told her.

When I told her, she was hurt and angry with me for days. But we moved past that, and now our friendship has never been stronger. We had really become closer since we were freshmen just the year before.

After lunch, Violet and I had a few more classes before school closed for the day. Once school was over, I was at my locker, packing my books and stuff, when Violet came over to pack her things too since our lockers were side by side.

Once we were done and everything was packed, I told Vi I was going to drop her off, and she was more than happy to comply.

After dropping her off, I went straight home to prepare for my night out with Dad.

Every once in a while, Dad and I would go out and have some father-daughter time. He had a very busy schedule and wasn't always at home, so we treasured the days when we got to spend time together.

Today was supposed to be one of those days when my father and I would go out, eat good food, talk about what was going on in our lives, and simply have fun.
