If there was an award for the noisiest class in Ajumoni Junior Grammar School, my JSS3 class would win it every single year.
No competition.
No argument.
Just give us the trophy.
I was Success — quiet, intelligent, and always observing everything happening around me.
While other students were busy creating problems, I was busy watching history happen.
Because honestly, our class was not normal.
We were noisy.
We were troublesome.
We were always punished.
And teachers?
Ah… teachers were tired of us.
Very tired.
Every morning started the same way.
Before any teacher entered the class, the place already turned into market.
Some people dey shout.
Some dey gist.
Some dey sing.
Desk dey shake like party don start.
Emmanuel — popularly called Ebola or Elbow — go already dey crack jokes.
“Guy, today go hot o!” he would announce.
Daniel, aka The Sapa, would reply immediately:
“Hot ke? I never chop since morning!”
Everybody go laugh.
Bright — also known as Shakara Virus, Calabar Witch, and Korean Madness — would sit forming like Korean drama actress.
Sometimes she go adjust her hair and say,
“Una no understand Korean lifestyle.”
We no even know wetin she dey talk, but we still laugh.
Ramon, our professional begi-begi, would already begin morning rounds.
“Abeg who get biscuit? Who get pen? Who get anything?”
Even before first period start, Ramon don borrow half of the class property.
Happiness and Benjamin — our famous couple — always became discussion topic.
Once they entered together, whispers go start.
“Love birds don land.”
Even teachers noticed.
But the real problem?
Noise.
Our class noise no get respect for timetable.
Teacher never reach door — we don shout.
Teacher dey inside — we still dey shout.
Even punishment no fit silence us completely.
One day, a teacher shouted:
“I am tired of this class!”
Another teacher entered later and said the same thing.
At that point we realized something…
All teachers were united against JSS3.
Almost every week:
“Kneel down!”
“Stand up!”
“Hands up!”
“Go outside!”
Punishment became normal routine.
Sometimes we go complain:
“Why na only our class dem dey punish like this?”
But deep down, we knew the truth.
We were the most interesting class in the whole school.
Anywhere our class dey, something must happen.
Drama.
Laughter.
Trouble.
Memories.
And without knowing it…
those noisy days were becoming the moments we would never forget.
