The world was quiet.

Not peaceful—just silent in the way a battlefield becomes after everything has already been decided.

Cassian stood alone in the ruined hall of the Duke's estate.

His sword was still in his hand.

But it no longer felt like it belonged to him.

Blood dripped slowly from the edge, tracing a thin line down the engraved steel. Not his blood. Not anymore.

He didn't move.

He didn't need to.

Behind him, footsteps approached softly—carefully—like someone trying not to disturb a sleeping memory.

"I'm sorry," a woman's voice said.

He recognized it instantly.

Not from the tone.

From the absence of emotion behind it.

His wife.

The sister of the Duke.

Cassian didn't turn around.

"...So it was you," he said quietly.

No anger. No surprise. Just understanding.

The kind that comes too late.

"You were never meant to weaken," she continued. "But time does that to everything. Even you."

A pause.

Then the final truth:

"The Duke sends his regards."

Silence returned again, heavier this time.

Cassian finally spoke, voice almost calm.

"So I was never a man... just a blade they forgot to replace."

A faint smile touched his face—not happiness, not sadness.

Just acceptance.

He lowered his sword slightly.

Not in surrender.

In release.

"I see."

The next moment was not dramatic.

Not loud.

Just final.

Steel flashed once.

And the world lost its greatest Swordmaster.
