December 6, 2005

The early December greeted the Tokyo city with a sunny morning and a chilly night.

As the sun settled down, the chilly december breeze showed its grace on Tokyo jujutsu high school. The huge campus turned cold and chilly as the night arrives. Students would rather bundle up in a cozy blanket then take a stroll in the chilly corridors.

But Utahime Iori wasn't like others. She never was. Instead of comfort, the fourth year student always preferred her curiosity to learn. Her determination to succeed as an independent sorceress was always firm and that was something which made her keep going against all odds.

Now, what was Utahime doing that others weren't? Well, she was sneaking her way in the huge Tokyo jujutsu library. The place which held the golden treasure of knowledge about the jujutsu society. But the students were not allowed to enter the 'palace of knowledge' after 7pm. The shrine maiden knew about this rule but the poor student was held back by multiple assignments which required immediate attention for her upcoming final exams.

The fourth year student had tied her hair in a messy bun, held by her signature white ribbon; few strands of her shiny dark hair accompanying her front bangs to frame her face. The bell-sleeves of her navy blue uniform swaying with her each movement. Her honey brown eyes sharply scanned the ancient style corridor for any passerby. Her feet not making a single sound as she was tip toeing towards the place which always quenched her thirst of curiosity- The library.

While the moon lit up in all it's glory, the cool breeze made it's presence been known. When the crisp biting air passed through the sneaky shrine maiden, she felt goosebumps rising on her bare legs which made her regret to not not wear her usual knee length socks under her brown boots.

The shrine maiden finally made it to her desired location. She slowly opened the heavy doors of the library and sneaked in quietly like a mouse.

The moment she entered the school library, she was greeted by her favourite scent- the crisp scent of thick books. She closed her eyes and inhaled a long breath, enjoying the smell of precious scrolls and historical details.

Utahime was internally bursting with excitement as she was finally going to get the book she was pinning for about a year. The book which the Iori clan forbid her from reading. The book which held all the dark secrets of the jujutsu society- 'The hidden secrets of jujutsu world'.

It was a book which was rare to find and the school librarian informed her the day before that this book finally arrived in the Tokyo jujutsu high library. The older woman knew how much the sweet fourth year student wished to read that book, so the moment the book was bought in the library, the librarian wanted Utahime to be informed about it first. Since that moment, the hardworking fourth year student was thriving to read it.

Utahime moved toward the back of the library, where the 'Restricted History' section sat under a layer of silver moonlight. There it was, tucked onto the very top shelf- a thick, leather-bound volume with golden kanji fading on the spine.

'This is it. I am finally going to read this book. Obasan (grandmother) thought she could keep me away from it. Oh how wrong she was.' Utahime thought as she squealed in delight upon the sight of her desired book.

Utahime reached out, her fingers straining toward the leather spine. She went up on her tiptoes, her 2-inch boots clicking softly against the floor. Even with the extra height, the book remained mockingly out of reach.

She huffed, her white ribbon fluttering as she tried to jump just an inch. 'Just... one... more... centimeter!' She motivated herself.

"You know, they say if you keep stretching like that, you might actually hit five-foot-five by the time you're thirty. Keep at it, Utahime~! I believe in you!"
