                                                             *NARRATOR*

Saturday afternoons are perfect for doing everyday little things that make one happy. Like going out for a treat at the ice cream shop nearby, taking a walk in the park, or even bonding with family, without having to worry about things like homework-which can always be done the next day-or that one school project worth half of your grade you probably haven't even bothered starting.

But for Lucas and Raven, this Saturday afternoon was spent at the library outside of town, looking for books on Napoleon Bonaparte and the French revolution-a project assigned to them at least a month ago and due the upcoming Tuesday they haven't started yet because they both happened to be professional procrastinators. They also happened to be best friends since childhood.

''okay'' Raven sighed as she dropped a mountain of books on the table where Lucas sat staring into the abyss, snapping him out of his daze. ''everything on Napoleon and the french revolution''

''what?'' Lucas blinked absent-mindedly, clearly inattentive.

''you could be a tad more useful y'know'' Raven said irritably. ''project's due in a few days and it's worth half our grade''

''but it's history'' Lucas whined, lazily leaning back into his chair.

''yes Lucas, history'' Raven said, sitting down opposite him. ''and I need to pass this subject if I want any chance of getting into a scholar's university, so try being a little helpful.''

''Ugh, fine'' Lucas groaned as he sat up and reached for his bag to pull out his laptop but to his surprise, didn't find it there. Weird. He could've sworn he put it in there earlier that morning. Dread filling his stomach, he slowly raised his head to see Raven looking at him expectantly, brow arched. ''well? Where is it?''

''Umm, about that-'' Lucas started but Raven cut him off before he could explain.

''You don't have it, do you?'' she asked and before he could answer, she spoke ''you know what-of course you don't. Carry those books. Your'e going to write on the french revolution at home since it's already getting late-and you better be done by tomorrow. And I'll write on Napoleon and we'll be done. Sound good?''

''Wait, that's not fair'' he protested. ''why do I-''

''Your'e one to talk about fair when all you've been doing is slacking off'' Raven snorted. ''plus, the French revolution's the easier bit. Now let's get going.''

''Oh. Alright then'' said Lucas, humbled by Raven's telling him off as he picked up the giant pile of books before him and walked behind her, but was almost thrown off balance by it's weight and wobbled on the spot.

''Need help?'' Raven offered, her gaze directed at the pile of books blocking Lucas's face from behind her rectangular glasses and shaggy, black and blonde hair. The blonde streaks in her hair weren't natural; they were actually a trauma response from when her parents died in a fire as a kid-a fire that she accidentally started.

''Yes please''Lucas sighed in relief and so Raven carefully picked up a single book at the top.

''There you go'' she said in a polite tone that she hadn't used for as long as Lucas could remember, and the realization hit him immediately by it.

''You only took one?'' he said, outraged by the stunt she pulled. leaning to the side, he could make out that it was a poetry book in her hand. ''and it's not even project-related!''

''think of it as payback'' she smirked, clearly satisfied with her doing. ''next time you won't be lazy or careless now will you?''

cursing under his breath and still struggling to carry the mountain pile of books in his hands, he followed her as they walked out of the empty library and outside to the deserted streets of the town's outskirts. The sky had turned into a rough shade of forget-me-not blue, indicating that it was almost sunset. Raven checked her watch; it was 06:16
