A FEW MINUTES EARLIER As I stepped out of the university gates , the warm sun on my skin was a welcome respite from the chaos of my life. Or so I thought. My name is Olivia, and I've always had it easy, rich family, good grades, and a clear path to Stanford's Psychology Department.

I was almost run off the road by a speeding car , and that's when I saw him. Chris, the guy with ' don't mess with me ' look in his eyes. He was being chased by the police, and I got caught in the crossfire. Literally.
The next thing I knew, I was in his car , fleeing from the cops , with my heart racing and my designer clothes covered in dust. Of course he used me as a shield so that the police can stop firing bullets since there was a civilian in the crossfire. Chris didn't even check if I was okay, I was stunned to even say anything. What was I doing here? This wasn't my life.
Little did I know, it was just the beginning of my messy entanglement with Chris, a guy whose life was a far cry from mine. His dark past marked by nightmares and trauma, was about to collide with my sheltered world. And I wasn't sure I'd make it out intact.
