It was a day Koda would never forget. I mean, how could he? The day that truly changed his life. How would it be possible to forget?

It was an usual Sunday afternoon. However, it was his parent's anniversary, so today was a bit special. Koda sat on his mother's bed and watched as she put her earrings on, the ones she only wore on special occasions. Koda heard his father yell from downstairs. "Crystal, you almost done gettin' ready? It's taking ya forever." Crystal was Koda's mother, he really liked the name, he thought it suited her. Koda smirked slightly, and teased his mother. "Sounds like you should hurry. Wouldn't want dad to drive off without ya." His father had a short temper, he was aware of it all too well. Crystal scoffed and giggled. "Hush, I'm done now." She straightened out her dress. Her long black dress. It suited her, just like how her name did. She smiled fondly, and opened her arms. "Koda, you know not to open the door for strangers, yes?" his mother warned. Koda rolled his eyes and sighed. "Yes, yes, I know. You've told me this too many times." Despite his tone, there was no real bite to his words. He hugged his mother tightly, and didn't want to let go. Something in him told him that he should cherish this moment, he just didn't quite know why. Koda jumped slightly as he heard his father yell from downstairs again. "Crystal!! Get your ass down here, we're gonna be late!" Koda smiled faintly and pulled away from his mother. "Sounds like you should go." Crystal cleared her throat, and nodded. "You're right. Well, I'll see you at 10...and...don't set the house on fire." Koda smirked. "No promises." he taunted. Koda walked her downstairs, since he planned on saying bye to his father as well, of course. He said goodbye to both of his parents, and before he knew it, he saw them pull out of the driveway.

The rest of the day was great, for the most part. It was filled with him binge-watching his favorite shows, calling friends, but it was pretty boring. When you're 15, there isn't much to do when your parents aren't home.

It was around 9pm, when he was watching the news. He figured that, hey, why not try to figure out what's going on with the world? Koda spoke quietly to himself. "Breaking news, pfft, give me a br..." He was quickly shut up by the realization that it was about the restaurant that his parents had gone to. Koda felt his heart race as he watched the TV. He read the words on the screen, and his heart dropped. Massacre..? No, he must've read it wrong. But, no, he heard those words the reporter was saying. Everyone who went to that restaurant..was..dead. No survivors, no one escaped, and it's unknown who caused it. Koda felt his head spin. This can't be, can it? His vision went blurry as he scrambled, looking for his phone. He barely was able to unlock his phone, putting in the wrong password a couple of times. He called his mom...no answer. "F-fuck.." Koda swore under his breath. He tried his dad's phone..and his soul shattered as he heard the continuous drone of the phone ringing, and..his dad's voicemail message. Was this really happening? "N-no...nah..fuck no." Koda's voice wavered slightly. His head pounded, and he could feel his heart pounding through his chest, he swore. He got up from the couch, his legs shaky. He stumbled to the bathroom, his vision blurring more as he felt the hot tears prickle at his eyes. Was this really, TRULY happening?

He took one good look at himself in the bathroom mirror. He had pale blonde hair, fair skin, green eyes and a lanky, tall figure. His eyes were sunken in, and when he looked in the mirror, all he saw was a tired, teenage mess. He ran his fingers through his hair, and he let out a shaky breath. He leaned against the bathroom counter and sobbed. Ugly, loud, sobs. He didn't care how he looked, he didn't care how he sounded. He wanted to rip his hair out, and scream. Koda let out a long, long sigh. He sat up and bit his lip, wiped his tears, and got out of the bathroom, slamming the door shut.
