The rain had been falling for hours, turning the dark faint street lights in 2096 into dark scary shadows. Adrian walked alone, his coat pulled tight around him. Most people avoided the streets at this hour. Most people didnt know what Adrian could see.
Above everyone's heads, faintly glowing in dark scary colors and letters only he could see, were dates. Not birthdays. Not anniversaries. Death dates.
Some were decades away, harmless. Others were close enough to make his stomach twist. He had lived with this gift..or what you can call curse, since he was a child. He had learned to ignore most of them. There was no point in trying to save anyone. Death had rules.
And then he saw her.
A new girl standing under a flickering dark streetlight, umbrella useless against the downpour. She was ordinary every way... expect for the date above her head:
"september 12, 2095"
today.
Adrian froze. Nothing about the city felt normal anymore. He had never seen a death date change. He had never seen someone cheat death.
Her name was Lena, and she was about to change everything.
The shadows seemed to stretch towards her as if the world itself was warning him. And in that moment, Adrian knew one thing: surviving was not enough.
Because in a city where everyone's death was already written... someone---or something---was about to rewrite the rules.
