It was a normal busy day in the bakery as Lainey and her uncle Buddy were trying to come up with ideas for pastry flavors. Lainey is the youngest daughter of Joe and Grace, being their foster daughter. She has lived with them for about a year and her older siblings are Robert and Bartolina. Lainey wakes up and goes downstairs to take her medicine and finds Grace cooking and Joe talking.
Joe: Morning, Lainey Rose. want to join us for breakfast this morning?
Lainey: I-I don't know. Anthony and Ralph and I were going to meet up with Juan at the cafe this morning for coffee. The four of us are practically inseparable.
Grace: You four better not cause any trouble and I'll know if you do. Just because Buddy is my brother, doesn't mean that you'll get off free from probation.
Lainey: Robert's right, you're overprotective.
Robert and Bartolina come downstairs to join their family for breakfast
Bartolina: You haven't asked her yet, dad?
Lainey: Haven't asked me about what exactly?
Joe: Grace, we need to tell her. Lainey, we've been thinking for a while now and we would like to know if you want to be a Faugno officially.
Grace: What he's trying to say is that we would like to officially adopt you, honey.
Lainey: I-I thought that I already was.
Grace and Joe don't speak but they just smile.
Robert: I think that answers your question, Dad.
Joe: Lainey, you're working with me in the back of the bakery today. Make sure you have all of your stuff ready.
Lainey: Yeah, it's in the car already. Uncle Buddy said that I can try those cupcakes that I made last week. The cupcakes with the raspberry filling in the middle of them.
Grace: I swear if you, Anthony, Maurizio, and \ralph cause more chaos today, I-
Bartolina: That's why they're inseparable, the four of them.
Lainey: She's got a point. Those three are chaotic. I stay out of it. Unless it's a prank.
At the bakery with Lainey, Joe, and Robert working with the design team
Buddy: Lainey, glad to see you today. I already have the cupcakes cooled off for you, just need you to add that filling in the middle of them before they go up front.
Anthony: *eating a cupcake form yesterday* Yeah, they're really good, little cousin.
Lainey: Only one, the rest are for the customers up front.
Joe: Anthony, don't get her in trouble. She's doing good so far.
Buddy: Let them have a little bit of fun, Joe. They're not hurting anything.
Lainey continues making her cupcakes with the strawberries inside the middle of them while the others work on cakes. Lainey walks over to Buddy who is doing double drop lines on a cake.
Lainey: Teach me how to do those, uncle Buddy. I want to learn besides just coming up with my own ideas for stuff up front. I think if we used these double drop lines you're doing on more wedding cakes, they would really sell. And it would add some flair to not only your family bakery, but to all of your clients who see your work.
Joe: She's a smart girl, Buddy. You should see her sketchbook of the wedding cakes she has drawn out. They're really good.
Lainey: They're not that good. They're just really simple designs, I swear.
Buddy: *flipping through Lainey's sketchbook* These are really advanced drawings that you're creating. Anthony, Maurizio, and Robert, you three help Lainey make this. I wanna see it decorated for a visual.
Lainey: Okay.
Joe: She takes pride in her work. Won't let me and Grace see her designs until she's finished.
Grace: Yeah, her wedding cake ideas are really detailed.
Lainey: You're both embarrassing me.
Bartolina: Yeah, you'll get used to that. They still embarrass me and Rob.
Robert: That's their job as parents, B.
Joe: And I for one love embarrassing my kids.
Grace: Typical. You haven't changed at all in 18 years.
Lainey: *finishes doing droplines on the cake* How's this for double drop lines, uncle Buddy?
Buddy: That's your first time? Those look really good. She's got a very steady hand, Joe.
Grace: She has a talent for learning new things, too.
Buddy: Okay guys, we have a really busy schedule today. Let's get to it.
Later in the day as everyone is working, someone knocks on the door
Grace: I'll get it. *opens the door* Pedro, come on in. Lainey's working in the back.
Pedro: *enters the baking room* Lainey, you in here? I'm back from Portugal!
Lainey: Pedro! What a nice surprise!
Lainey and Pedro hug as Joe walks over
Joe: Nice to see you again. And I know that you're taking care of Lainey very well.
Pedro: Yeah, I always take care of her. Lainey, I know that you and I have been dating for four years now, but there's another reason why I'm here.
Lainey: And what is that, Pedro?
Pedro: *kneels and holds out a small velvet box* Lainey Faugno, will you marry me?
Lainey: you're serious? Of course I will Pedro. Yes.
