Chapter One

Max walked into Hawkins High as she was carrying her red and yellow stripped skateboard under her arm, it was the first day of school after summer break. Her hair was sunkissed red wearing a new t shirt and blue shorts with a denim jacket that Billy got her for her birthday in July. The whole school looked at her as she gave them  roll of her eyes and everyone was talking loud about something. Dustin, Lucas and Will ran through the hall to get to Max trying to not skid or fall as they were running at the speed of light. They stopped in front of her. Catching their breath sadly looked at her three best friends frowning and confused.

"What is going on Jesus it can't be the end of the world again." The boys shook their head quickly and held their chests speaking. "M-Mike and El broke up..." Max gasped shocked at the news as everyone around her and the boys were talking about it. Shocked to speak her expression said it all. Dustin, Lucas and Will matched her expression while nodding. After a few minutes passed Max opened her mouth to talk. "What happened, tel me everything and don't leave anything out and is that why everyone is talking about?" The boys brought Max to the old AV Room. Will took a deep breath in before talking."Well what happened was that El and Mike had a massive fight outside his house, about her kissing another guy and then she said that he kissed another girl as they were on some stupid break to figure out their relationship but the fight was so bad that they broke up!"

Max's eyes widened even more shocked, she knew that there was trouble in paradise with them as El was her best friend before she decided to dump her over the summer to hang out with the other girls at school. She had flashbacks of El dumping her as her best friend for the other girls in another fight. Max rolled her eyes but her face was saddened of the news. Mike was  a class asshole but she knew how much he loved El and would actually die for her if it came to it to save her life. "Where is he now?" She looked sternly at the boys. "He didn't come into school today as it happened last night." Max nodded and quickly ran outside the school and onto her skateboard, skating to Mike's House.

She skidded up to his driveway seeing his window closed and the curtains drown which was not like Mike at all. He was always the early riser in the group. Holly noticed Max was outside and opened the door as she rushed and hugged her tightly. Max hugged her tightly remembering their time in Vecna's mind together. "Max I am so glad you are here, he is so sad! The fight was just awful she used her powers on him and the shouting was so loud." Holly's eyes filled with tears worried for her brother. Max looked her softly. "It's okay Hol I have got this don't worry is he upstairs in his room?" Nancy and Steve were trying to talk to Mike from praise his door but no success. Nancy saw Max coming up the stairs with relief on her face.

Steve fist bumped Max and nodded at eachother as knocked on his door. "Mike hey uh its' zoomer. I heard what happened between you and Eleven. I and the party are really sorry. I'm here if you want to talk or something." Mike heard Max's voice from inside his bed as the room was pitch black as he was under the covers, his eyes were red and puffy from crying all night. "Go away please leave me to feel this as I told everyone to just leave me alone!"

Nancy and Steve walked downstairs to talk to Mike as she shook her head. "I am not going anywhere Mike. You tried very hard before to get rid of me and it didn't work and even when I was in Vecna's mind." Mike sighed angrily as he opened the door seeing Max sitting up against the wall as her legs were crossed and her arms crossed. Mike's eyes looked at her like he was thinking it was El. He stated to cry walking back into his room before he closed the door Max caught the door walking in. His room smelt really bad and clothes were all over his floor like little islands and his blind were down as it was so dark in his room. "Jesus Mike how long have you been living like this?" Mike ignored her question by going into his bed again crying out for El.

Max was ready worried for him she knew that they had broken up lots of ties and forever back together every single time but this was different. Max got out his laundry basket, putting his dirty clothes that she held her nose while dropping them in the basket and started to clean his room. "No just leave it Zoomer!" She stood up looking at him crossing the room to him in his bed. "No this isn't you Mike quite frankly you are scaring the hell out of me!" Mike sat up quickly facing her as he hadn't showered in days as Max's stomach felt like she was going to vomit. "Max she started dating someone else behind my back and so did I to get back at her as we were on break to figure out if we wanted to be together. Then she found out and we fought and we broke up fr the final time as she was completely done with me." He had bruises on his arms as she had used her powers on him as she never would before.

"Well at least Hopper will be happy." Max said trying to lighten the mood as Mike laid back in the bed crying in a ball. Max thought about how she could help Mike as she had never talked to him longer than hello as El didn't like them talking even when they were in the group. Mike overheard that groaning. "Not funny." Max pulled the cover off of him. "Oh come on Wheeler! El has dumped you over and over again why is this time any different?" They both stared intensely at each other for a few minutes. "Well it's because we slept with other people on the break and she found out and we fought so I broke up with her and then she got really upset and used her powers on me. The problem is that I am in how with her, there is no air without her, she is the sun when it rises and the moon when it shines. I know it's pathetic I really thought that we were forever. I wanted to marry her when we were older and be the father of her children and live happily ever after." He never talked about his emotions with anyone, certainly not to Max of all people.

Max listened for the first time not wanting to talk which was a first for her, she loved to talk. "It is not pathetic Mike what you and El shared was something beautiful that everyone in the world wants and you had it. It is not gone it is just one of those things that was shared between two people that ended. Look at myself and Lucas, we were not made for each other either but we tried. It was tubular and sweet but with everything I went through in Vecna's mind he just couldn't keep loving me." Mike sighed sitting up beside her looking at her. "I never liked that he dumped you when you came back from that freak's mind." Max's mind filled with that memory as she started getting anxious as she shook it off quickly.

Days had passed as everyday Max spent her time with Mike helping him through his breakup with El. He hoped that she would call him up and he would call her name in his sleep with nightmares of her and how they fought. All he wanted to do was to tell her that he didn't want this breakup anymore and get back together. Max stopped him from calling her when he tried to when she wasn't looking. "Wheeler! It is time for school, it is been a week of you being sad and I have had it!" Mike shook his head scared about the thought is among everyone in school and especially Eleven. Max threw his backpack at him and some clean clothes. "Let's go now and grow some balls Mike." Max left the room as she waited for him on her skateboard as she skated outside doing some new tricks she learnt. Mike came outside in some new clothes which made him look... not like a complete idiot.

Mike and Max headed to school as they pulled up to the school, everyone looked at them whispering. Sarah and Chloe said at the same time. "Oh My God, El is going to freak when she sees this!" They ran inside to find El as she was at her locker surrounded by boys flirting with her. She turned to her friends Sarah and Chloe while holding onto one of the boys. "What is it girls can't you see I am occupied right now?" The girls nodded. " He is here with... her." El's face grew red with anger as she was relaxed seconds ago. She let go of the boy and pushed the boys out of the way walking fast outside of the school. El stopped on the stairs seeing Mike for the first time after the breakup. Her mind was going crazy with thoughts of him and how it ended between them. Her heart yearned for him as her mind tried to pull away. Her eyes turned to Max, her ex best friend. She breathed heavily as the air became heavy.

Mike looked up meeting El's gaze not breaking it as he could still hold her in some way, El walked down to them quickly still on Mike's eyes. Max sighed deeply and loudly that El would hear. El stared at her with eyes of rage. " I told you to stay away from him Mayfield." Max walked up her close to Mike. " As of last week he isn't your property anymore Eleven or... did you forget you broke up with him? You also used your powers on him. So I would stay away if you don't want to be zoomed over." Max and El hadn't spoked to one another since El ended their friendship to be friends with Sarah and Chloe. Max loved standing up to people especially of her home life with Billy, she learnt to not take any bullshit from anyone. El stepped closer to her, not backing down. "Bring it on." Mike stepped in between them with his back to Max as he was facing El.

El looked up at him again as her body wanted to pull him into her to apologise for everything and kiss him and cornice their bodies as one so badly. Mike was thinking the same thing as they were inches from each other as the bell rang. The sound of the bell brought them back to reality and not in their world anymore. El twisted on her heel as her hair flicked in his face as he breathed in her scent. Walking away from him as Sarah and Chloe made mean faces at Max as they followed El to class. Mike stood there stunned as Max pulled him away to o to class on the other side of the school.
