The sterile white walls of the Quirk Registry Office always smelled of antiseptic and disappointment, but four-year-old Izuku Midoriya was too vibrating with excitement to notice.
He sat on the edge of the plastic chair, his legs swinging back and forth, clad in his favorite All Might sneakers.
Today was the day.
Every other kid in his class had already started sparking, growing, or changing. Today, he would finally know his secret power.
Inko Midoriya sat beside him, her hands clasped tightly over her purse as she offered him a nervous, watery smile.
"Whatever it is, Izuku, I'm sure it’ll be amazing."
"I bet it's fire breath! Or telekinesis like yours, Mom!" Izuku chirped, his eyes wide and shining.
The door opened, and Dr. Garaki stepped in, clutching a digital clipboard.
He looked at the X-rays of Izuku’s feet, then at the blood work, his brow furrowed in a way that made Inko’s heart skip a beat.
"Well," the doctor began, his voice raspy. "It’s... unusual."
Inko leaned forward.
"Is he—is he Quirkless? The extra toe joint—"
"He doesn't have the joint," the doctor interrupted, turning the screen toward them.
"Biologically, he is a Quirk user. However, the manifestation is... dormant. We’ve run the DNA sequencing through the national database. The Quirk factor is present, and it even has a registered name in the ancestral markers."
Izuku hopped off the chair, pressing his face against the desk.
"What is it? Is it a hero power?"
Dr. Garaki looked at the boy with a clinical, almost pitying coldness.
"The Registry calls it 'Rebirth.'"
Inko blinked. "Rebirth? What does that mean? Does he heal people? Can he grow plants?"
"That’s the issue," the doctor sighed, leaning back. "There is no recorded data on how it functions. No activation requirements, no physical mutations, no energy output. In the eyes of the law, he has a Quirk. In practice... we have no idea how he’s supposed to use it. It just... exists."
Izuku didn't care about the lack of details.
He only heard the most important part: He had a Quirk.
They leave the doctors office and soon after they get home izuku bouncing with excitement asks his mom.
"Mom! Mom! Can I go to the park? I have to tell Kacchan!"
Inko laughed, wiping a stray tear of relief from her eye.
"Slow down, Izuku! Yes, you can go. Just be back before dinner, okay?"
Izuku didn't even wait for her to finish.
He was a green blur, sprinting down the sidewalk toward the local playground.
He could see them from a distance—the "Bakugo Brigade." Katsuki stood at the center, small explosions popping in his palms like tiny firecrackers.
The other kids were cheering, showing off elongated fingers or the ability to spit bubbles.
