Rein's POV
Bzz, Bzz. The sound of my alarm was annoying, but it woke me up nevertheless. I get out of my bed, throwing my blanket on the floor. I stretch before heading straight to the bathroom, shutting the door behind me.
I use the bathroom, brush my teeth, and head back to my room. It's the same as any other morning, I wake up, get ready, and head on the game. Usually it's the same game, but I've recently gotten into a new game called Soulstice, so that's all I've been playing... I met some dude on here, I'm pretty sure he thinks I'm a girl.
Upon opening the game, I immediately have a message from this guy. His username, due2wyatt.
due2wyatt: hey rua
due2wyatt: rua
due2wyatt: i see ur on
due2wyatt: i have a question
due2wyatt: do u have discord?
Discord? I haven't used that app in a while. I open my phone to check if I even still have it, and... There it is. I open it, looking at the many deleted users in my messages, the countless update messages plastered all over my screen, and the few servers I'm still in.
Looking over the layout that I'm unfamiliar with, I see my profile in the corner. Clicking on it, I'm presented with a profile picture that definitely reflects the last time I was on this app, and my username.
I look back at the computer screen, opening the message. I text back,
lovingrua.: Yeah, I do.
due2wyatt: whats ur user??
due2wyatt: mine is the same as on here, due2wyatt
lovingrua.: I haven't used discord in a while, so don't judge.
lovingrua.: My username is kawaiipuppi
due2wyatt: LMAO WHAT
lovingrua.: Don't judge.
due2wyatt: ok i added u
And just as he said, I got a notification. "due2wyatt has sent you a friend request!" I sighed, accepting the request, moving over to messages. I look at his profile. Nothing wrong with it, but it is definitely more decorated than mine. I feel overwhelmed at the constant moving things, so I close it and it seems that due2wyatt has already messaged me.
WYATT (due2wyatt): RUA RIGHT?
WYATT (due2wyatt): ur profile is giving 2020 LOL
WYATT (due2wyatt): was then when u last logged on?
WYATT (due2wyatt): why r u taking so long to respond

I checked settings, and changed my username immediately to my usual "lovingrua." I didn't bother looking for a new profile picture. I filled out the other basic things such as the display name and I added a short bio: "Rua." Great. I skipped over the pronouns, and whatever all that other clutter was.
Rua (lovingrua.): Yes, that's when I last logged on.
WYATT (due2wyatt): why didnt u change ur pfp
Rua (lovingrua.): I don't care enough about it.
WYATT (due2wyatt): oph ok
Rua (lovingrua.): Why did you ask for my discord? Couldn't we just chat on Soulstice?
WYATT (due2wyatt): yeah but like thats all we do
WYATT (due2wyatt): plus i wanna call u for once
WYATT (due2wyatt): idek how you sound and we've been playing together for a couple weeks now.
Rua (lovingrua.): What makes you think I'd agree to a call?
WYATT (due2wyatt): well... why wouldnt u?
Rua (lovingrua.): You don't need to hear my voice.
WYATT (due2wyatt): whatever. u wanna play?
Rua (lovingrua.): I'm not calling you, but I will play.
WYATT (due2wyatt): OK. join my server
Rua (lovingrua.): Okay.
Finally back on the game, I head over to my friend's list to join his server. I just spent 5 minutes friending this guy on Discord when I could have been advancing in the game. His request to call is weird, though. Why would he want to hear what a stranger sounds like on the internet?
But what does it matter? I join in the game, anyway and we kill some monsters before he logs off. He doesn't usually play long, but it seemed as if he logged off too quickly. Either way, I stayed on until an alarm went off–my reminder to get ready.
I don't do much in my freetime. I don't have a job, I don't go to school and it's not like my parents give me anything, so I've resorted to streaming. I have a lot more viewers than I thought I would ever get, but who am I to complain? It just brings in more money. All I do is stream everyday, and I get a nice paycheck by the end of the month.
I guess that's why I was so against the idea of revealing my voice to this dude–if anyone who knows me outside of my streaming finds out, I fear it's over. I know I have the same name everywhere, but I also know that there's at least 50 other "Rua"s in Soulstice alone...
Anyways, everyday I get ready at 12pm to stream an hour later. I put on some makeup, change clothes and fix up my hair. My streams usually are just chatting or I play a game my chat recommends. Today's the latter. I usually don't take too long to get ready, but I do like the extra time I get before my streams.
After I finish getting ready, I have 30 minutes before my stream. I start setting everything up, the game, my camera, and my other computer to see the chat. After making sure everything's ready, it's just time to wait. Then, I get a notification from... Discord, once again. I open it on my computer this time, taking a bit to log in.
WYATT (due2wyatt): YOO RUA
WYATT (due2wyatt): ruaaaaa
WYATT (due2wyatt): u free?
WYATT (due2wyatt): i wanna make u meet 1 of my friends
Rua (lovingrua.): I'm not free.
WYATT (due2wyatt): o
WYATT (due2wyatt): then y r u replying... u dont have to lie 2 me
Rua (lovingrua.): I'm not lying, I'm just about to start something.
WYATT (due2wyatt): start what? how much time do u have before then
Rua (lovingrua.): 20. What do you need?
WYATT (due2wyatt): OK just let me add you to a gc and u can meet them.
WYATT (due2wyatt): it'll take less than 20 minutes. just say hi and get it over with
Rua (lovingrua.): Fine.
Just then, I get a notification on my screen.
"YOU AND 3.5 OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR AREA ARE ON DISCORD AT THIS MOMENT RIGHT NOW! THIS IS THE LEAST AMOUNT OF PEOPLE ALL ACROSS THE WORLD. GAIN A REWARD FOR THIS BY CLICKING THE BUTTON BELOW."
What the hell? Why would I get a reward for something as stupid as this? And what does 3.5 people even mean? I look around the pop-up for some sort of x button, but everywhere I move my cursor, the button follows. I open up discord on my phone and the same pop-up appears. What the hell is going on? I shut down my computer, knowing it'll delay the stream, but I have to get this off.
Turning my computer back on, it's still there. This time, there's more buttons around the screen. By this point, I'm already tired of it. What's the harm of clicking a stupid button that will at most lead me to a website that I can easily exit out of?
Reluctantly, I click the button.
