Ever since Riley and Lucas ended their romantic relationship, Lucas and I have grown closer together. Almost like best friends- which is surprising because I never thought of him as anything more than a friend in middle school. We started new traditions and we hang out a lot.

For example, we get a cab to my house after school and he turns around and heads over to his house after he walks me up to my apartment. He goes out of his way, believe me I have told him not to before, but it's nice to have someone with me in such a bad neighborhood.

Today is one of those days except he's going to sleepover tonight. It's Friday and we do this every once in a while. I promise you nothing happens- my mom makes him sleep on the couch. I'm sure she trusts us by now because she won't be back until later tonight. For now we were enjoying the ride to my house in a cab.

My phone vibrates in my coat pocket and the screen lights up with a name on it.

Riley:
Are you with Lucas?

Maya:
Yeah, wanna come over?

Riley:
Of course not. You and Lucas should spend time with each other.

Maya:
Okay, Peaches, ttyl.

"Was that Riley?" Lucas looked over at me. He sat next to the window so there was a gap between us.

"Oh, yeah, she just wanted to know what's up." I shrugged a little.

"I don't want to come between you guys. Just say the word and I'll back off." He stated, this time looking out the window.

What is he even talking about? Nobody could come between Riley and I. Not even Lucas or Farkle. "You could never do that to us, Huckleberry."

Lucas sighed turning his head and looking at his folded hands placed in his lap.

The cab slowed down and stopped a block or two away from my apartment. The place was littered with trash and suspicious people obviously hiding something in their jackets. Home, sweet home.

"Come on, the closer we get to being inside: the better." Lucas grumbled. He really and I mean really doesn't like my neighborhood. He's even asked me to stay at his house because of it.

He dragged me out of the car making sure I was close. His hands were really soft and kind of warm. They had a comforting feel to them.

We got inside the building and quickly made it to my door. I unlocked the door and he held it open for me.

What a gentleman, I thought rolling my eyes.

I ran and jumped on the couch, happy to be free of high school- or so they call it. I guess it wouldn't be appropriate to call it a jail.

"Ugh hey, Ranger Rick, any chance you could hand me the remote?" I said, extending my 'ugh' to really emphasize my discomfort. It was a good two feet away and that was just too much work for me.

"Now I have to get food and the remote? You're killing me, Hart." Lucas flashed me an award winning smile and went to get the food first. I heard him open the fridge and look for stuff.

He came back a minute later with a tub of ice cream and two spoons. He put the tub down and placed the remote in my hands. Lucas motioned for me to move down the couch so he could fit.

We sat in silence while I surfed for something to watch. I was doing something productive while Lucas stuffed his mouth with ice cream- apparently caring much less about how he looked than he should.
