Finn was laying on his bed, lost in thought. Nowadays, things were pretty boring in Gardenview, well for him at least. He didn't have a single toon to talk to since Goob was always going on runs to help distract, Gigi was always off with connie and probably stealing things, Dyle was operating the trains and elevators or even just gossiping with the star of the show, and Shrimpo barely hanged out with him now that hes to busy being 'friends' with Tisha (even though Finn knew well that thanks to his help that they must have finally confessed).
Sure, Finn wasnt gonna act like some attention seeking mirror *cough cough* just cause he wasnt given attention 24/7, but he still felt empty for not having a good conversation with anyone in a while. Cause all in all, he didn't really have any friends besides them. Everyone else just thought he was annoying. Just because of his dumb fish puns and the fact he spills water everywhere.
Which he had tried to fix by his emptying his head out from now on and cutting down on the jokes, but his puns and jokes were sort of his nature really. It's what he was made to do. All he ever was supposed to be anyway; just a fishbowl who liked marine biology.
But other than Finn's own existence, his mind kept flickering back to when he had to play matchmaker, you see, he wasnt doing it alone. One day the ammonite, Shelly Fossilian had came and sat down with him whilst the other tables during lunch were full and she had no one else to sit with. The mains were off doing something else and Tisha, Shelly's best friend, was laughing and messing around with Shrimpo. Basically, Shelly knew Tisha liked him, Finn knew that the shrimp liked her back, so, they helped out so they atleast wouldn't have to be so annoyed they were still just friends.
They did hang out to make up plans to get those two dating, but it eventually just became an argument on if fish were better than dinosaurs, although they both had very clear opinions on the matter.
Even if it was just walking and talking before we spied on those two during our set up, it was ridiculously fun. He didnt think there was a given point where'd he'd laughed harder about some awful first try at a pun. Finn even felt a bit more whole just thinking about it.
They both had interests that they could talk about. Finn would ramble about some sort of sea creature and in return Shelly talked about dinosaurs and fossils. Finn was pretty certain that after all of the random facts shared, she didnt find him all that annoying, which was a nice change of pace, and he didn't find Shelly annoying either, even if she went on about a specific dinosaur for too long. Having someone like her, someone to listen to him and find his puns funny, was nice, and maybe a little bit better than train talk. "Hm," Finn sat up and stared at the empty hall outside his room, almost as if he was expecting someone to jump into view.
"maybe she's not doing anything right now..." He looked over at a glass cup where he kept his pet
'fish' Barnaby Willikers. He used to be kept inside of Finns head, but he didn't put any water in it anymore, even though that didn't really change anyone's opinions about him.
"What do you think Barnes?"
The purple mechanical fish gave a slow blink in response.
"Yeah you're right, shes probably on a run or something, isn't she?" Finn sighed and flopped onto the bed face-first. He turned his head to look at Barnaby again, as if they were having a real conversation.
"I mean I could still try and look for her though..."
Finn thought about it for a minute, about all of the wacky, off-the-hook things they would talk about, about how stupid it would be to just go up to her and ask if we could just blab about sharks for hours on end. After laying there, still staring at the cup. He finally decided to try and find her. To see if maybe, just maybe, he could get a laugh in during this boring week. And possibly, if he could get a friend to hang out with more often.
