It was a light shower of rain around 5:16pm while Katsuki Bakugou, or as we mainly know him, Dynamight, sat at the edge of a rooftop eating some food to fuel up for the rest of his patrol.
He was supposed to go home after a bit, considering it was his parents' anniversary that night. Just as he finished his pork bun and was about to look for a trash can to throw the wrapper, his phone screen lit up with a notification and the telltale sound of a message. A message.. from Izuku.
Why did he have to text him right when Katsuki had just begun to forget about the green haired boy's emerald eyes, his adorable little freckles, the sound of his excited voice, and..
A frustrated groan left the blonde's mouth as he shook his head, determined to at least ignore the thoughts for now as he reluctantly unlocked his phone with his password. Still the same as it had been ever since his 3rd year at UA, Izuku's birthday.
The problem was, Bakugou had never moved on from the day he apologised to Izuku in the rain, and he had come to accept the fact that he never would. Though the explosive blonde would never accept it before, he really had loved his Deku to bits. Well, at least until the bitter feeling of seeing him look at Uraraka that way settled into his gut.
It started back in the first year of UA, when Izuku returned to UA after his whole vigilante bullshit that Katsuki never really understood, he saw the way his eyes shone when Uraraka stood up for him and spoke to everyone just for him to stay. He saw the way Izuku's eyes always drew to her since that day, and something in him burned everytime he noticed it.
Hadn't he been there longer for Izuku? Wasn't he the one who had been in Izuku's life the longest? He deserved that look more, so why wasnt it him? Was he not enough?
Whatever, he thought, he couldnt bother to have these thoughts in the middle of patrol after all. He opened the chat to see the texts, his crimson eyes widening almost instantly.
'I got Aunt and Uncle a gift.'
'Oh and, look down.'
Look down? What did he mean?
Katsuki immediately turned his phone off and shoved it in his pocket, crumpling the plastic wrapper and glancing down below the edge of the building. There was no way that the stupid green haired boy would be waiting for him, right?
Wrong. There he was, down below all those floors on the side walk, glancing up and waving at Katsuki from all the way down there. All that work trying to get over him over the past few years gone right down the drain..
Katsuki couldnt get himself to look away, no matter how much he wanted to just scoff and roll his eyes like he used to. Why was it now out of all times, on a rainy day, when he had to see the stupid freckled man? He couldnt understand why fate had to be so cruel to him, but he did decide to just suck it up and head down. What kind of a hero would he be otherwise?
A few blasts and a grumpy landing later, Katsuki was in front of Izuku, a scowl on his face the only thing saving him from crumbling right then and there.
"The hell's got you stalking me, huh? Couldnt find better work teaching all those kids?" A snarky response left his mouth on reflex, as if to save face, but Izuku saw right throught it.
After all, how couldnt he? The man had been following along with the aggressive blonde ever since they were mere toddlers, ever since the pressure of society hadnt torn them apart just to throw them back together. A soft shine rose in his eyes as his signature smile formed on his lips, the kind that made Katsuki's already horribly out of shape heart skip a few more beats.
"Alright Kacchan, I appreciate you too. Isn't it about time you headed home? I'm pretty sure Shoto can file in for your shift, he's nearby. And then.. you can take me to your house because Aunty invited me."
Izuku tried to be as casual as possible, but nothing was casual about meeting after months, the last meeting having been quite the.. chaotic one, to say the least. He adjusted his sleeves slightly, rolling them up and then looking back up at Katsuki with both the packaged gifts in his hands in separate bags.
For a few moments, a comfortable silence stretched between them before Katsuki decided to break it with a resignated sigh and shake his head. He really would have to endure this once more.
"Alright.. But no bullshitting in front of Ma, and you better eat as much as she tells you to," he spoke in an annoyed tone, but Izuku could almost hear the tone of affection underneath it as Katsuki turned around to text Shoto to cover up for him before putting his phone back in his pocket.
Tonight was gonna be a long night..
