He saw pictuers of him and Alex from when they were young ,he rememberd al the things they did when they were young eventhough they are only 25 years old . He rememberd that Alex's parents took him in after his parents burnt in there house while Jacob was at school.He never fully understood his emotions at the time but he was also just 13 years of age,but before he could complete thinking Alex walked in and was to busy to even know that Jacob was in the room. Finally noticing Jacob he asked "And what do I have the joy of seeing you here my old friend." Jacob filled with anger shouted at Alex an said "Thanks to you Candy doesn't believe in our friendship anymore,so we are going to prove that we still care." Alex looked at Jacob with a surprised reaction and answered "Well look at this Jacob is trying to save everyone again ,but I am sorry to disappoint you I am simply to busy to attend the healing process with you two."Alex had a smug look on his face almost teasing Jacob .But Jacob walked up to Alex and told him"Well it looks like your two weeks leave has just been put in",and he dragged Alex out of the office . After getting Alex into his car he called Candy telling her to pack and that they were leaving the next day ,happy and surprised she asked if Alex said yes he replyed"yes he is sitting right next to me in the car.The next day the set of to miami where Jacob's lovely beach house is just on th coast of the beach. The whole trip form new york to their hotel where they would be sleeping the night Alex had said nothing ,just the ocational yawn. When they had arrived Jacob decided that they should have dinner together but ofcource Alex wanted no part of it .
Jacob and Candy were the only one's at the resturand but this was good they talked the night away laughing and talking about what happend in their lives while they were apart as Candy exclaimed at thier gathering by the coffee shop. When Jacob went to the rest room he kept having this feeling that someone was watching him but everytime he turned around he saw nothing.He remember that he always saw a shadow following him but Alex said he was being parnoid and that he's not 7 years old ,at the time he believed him but seeing the shadow 12 years later he was scared.
After leaving the retuarant they said good night and went to their rooms ,but when Jacob finally fell asleep he dream't of his parents burning in the fire he screamed HELP!HELP!.He felt powerless his parents screamed of pain and he woke up to the screaming of Alex trying to wake him up ,he had that dream every night for the past 12 years and after waking him up with sweat all over his face and chest
Alex staired at him for a couple of seconds and asked "Was it that same nightmare agian?".Jacob took his shirt and wiped of the sweat from his face and answerd "Yes ,it has been getting worse too.".Alex always understood that it was a tromatic event for Jacob,and always tried to comfort him.after that the two talked for a while and Alex explained why he had been so niglective towards them. The following morning Alex was in a much better mood then before Candy seemed so surprised but at the same time too happy to care,for once they all got along so well after moving to new york. The ride to miami was so plesant they couldn't stop smileing and they all missed seeing each others smiles .
Finally arriving at the beach house they went in and ran to their bedrooms that they wanted ,as always Jacob got the master bed room and started to unpack.But while he was unpaking he noticed something out of the ordinary in the closet of the bedroom ,he saw what he first thought was his imagination an old worne out leather bag with the letters DV on the locket.He soon remember the month before his parents died the came to the beach house with his father carrying that same bage under his arm ,and as he was he didn't really care at that age ,but his parents left this exact bag at the beach house.
