"I think they were going to do your eyebrows and manicures in there. And then, after 20 minutes of that, we'll wrap you in all natural seaweed that we pulled out of the ocean. At least, that's what I'm guessing happened. It makes your skin soft and stuff. Then you'll lay on a table and our really awesome massage people-"

"I'm going to have to stop you there," I squeaked. "You mean a masseuse?"

Her face lit up. "Hey, yeah! That's the word. Anyway, they'll make you like super relaxed and stuff. Then you'll get your pedicure, they'll let it dry, and then you get a goodie bag!" She grinned, as if the goodies made up for her not having any clue what these things were about to do to me. I shuddered and steeled myself.

If something went wrong, I could always just sue Rose.

"Wow. That actually wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be," I said as we walked out of the building. Rose beamed at me.

"Right? You worry too much. It was fun!" She yelled, sliding into the car.

"Yeah, it was, actually. Why didn't Kona come with us?" I asked suddenly, climbing into the passenger seat.

"Something about Cameron's parent's," She explained poorly, rolling her eyes. I snorted and stared down at my fingernails. They were the perfect dark red to match my dress, a splash of silver glitter slanting down the side. They were unbelievably glossy and perfect, and I grinned like a 4 year old on Christmas morning every time I looked down at them. I'd never admit it, but secretly, I was very excited for this ball.

Rose had decided we would get ready at my house, so all of her 'beauty essentials', as she called them, were already here. Both of our dresses were hanging carefully in my closet, where they would stay as we did our hair and makeup.

As it got later, Rose helped me with my hair. I'd gone with a simple updo, as my dress was flashy enough. It was all prettily curled and seemingly secured by only a sparkly comb that had the same ivy like designs as my gown. I fretted over it with a can of hairspray as she stood back and laughed at me.

"While you put your makeup on, I'm going to do my own hair in your bathroom. I want to surprise you," She said with a wink. Before I could stop her, she disappeared with her arms full of hair equipment into the other room. I frowned. That wasn't fair; if she helped me, shouldn't I help her?

I shrugged. There was no stopping Rose once she made up her mind. I turned back to the mirror of my vanity, brushing on my makeup. I wasn't very careful with my eyes, because they were going to be hidden behind a mask anyway, but everything else had to be perfect.

In the end, my lips were a luscious red that made them look kissable. I mean, I'd kiss me. I chuckled at my own joke, scanning over the rest of my face, taking in the flawless glow of my skin that hadn't been there a few days ago. My eye shadow was also red, of course, and I had lined the blue orbs with a silvery pencil. My lashes were long, dark, and thick, framing my eyes beautifully. I had done pretty good, if I did say so myself.

"What do you think?" Rose suddenly asked behind me. My eyes flickered to her form in the mirror, where I covered my mouth in surprise. I turned and smiled at her fondly.

Her brown hair was half pulled up and curled to perfection. A small tiara rested at the top of her head, and small rhinestones were twisted into place, helping to hold it all together. Her eyelids were gold and white, with the same silver eye liner I'd used. Her lips were a soft pink, as were her cheeks. I squealed and rushed over to hug her.

"Rose!" I yelped. "You look so perfect!"

"So do you!" She said, hugging me tighter. "But you're missing one thing."

"What is it?" I asked, tilting my head in confusion. She glided over to my dresser, grabbing both of our masks. Mine was light and silver, with raised patterns of the same ivy that was on my dress. Hers was plain gold, with a dramatic splash of gold glitter against the left side of it.

"Our masks."

"We don't even have dresses on yet, silly," I replied, laughing at her.

"But they finish our makeup!" She exclaimed, shoving mine into my hands before securing her own into place. I rolled my eyes and gently placed the beautiful silver mask on my bed.

"Rose, where's your dress?" I asked lowly, staring at the empty place in my closet.

"In the bathroom, I think. I'll go put it on." I huffed with relief. We didn't need anymore drama tonight.

I slipped into my gown, zipping up the side of it and fixing my skirts to keep myself busy. The silver, glittery heels by my door glared at me from across the room, as if daring me to put them on. I was never very graceful, and those things looked like death traps to me. Instead, I walked over to my dresser, carefully putting the diamond necklace I'd picked out on. The center gem rested in the hollow of my throat, just where I liked it. Instead of a chain, an intricate design that matched my mask and dress crossed its way around my neck, studded with more beautiful diamonds. I put in the matching dangling earrings, and I was good to go.

I turned and faced the bathroom just as Rose sauntered out again. She'd chosen a simple golden dress with a tight, glittery bodice, and a loose flowing skirt that fell to the floor. It was a sweetheart neckline, but it dipped low in he center to show off her cleavage. I smiled at my best friend. It fit her perfectly.

"Come here, come here!" She squealed, grabbing my mask. I crossed the room and allowed her to secure my mask into place. We faced the mirror together and sighed in unison. This felt like the perfect fairy tale right now.

"We have 5 minutes before the party started," I growled, slipping on those horrid heels. "Grab the bag so we can change afterwards." As quickly as these deadly contraptions would allow, we hobbled out my front door, where I expected to just take my truck to the ball. Rose, apparently, had different plans.

"You ordered a limo?" I screeched, glaring at the long, black, fancy thing in my driveway. She had to be joking, right? How much do those things even cost? "Actually, you know what? It's your money. I don't even care."

"Sure you don't," She mumbled, her finger in the ear closest to me. "But that wasn't me." I whipped my head around to look at her, and then I stared as the window rolled down to reveal a giddy Kona.

"Hey, guys! Look what I just bought!"
