So there you are, in the year 4,502,025,000. Andromeda collided with the Milky Way & you are drifting through space in the refitted Space Shuttle Discovery, rethinking how you got here. America reused most of their space craft after Earth became inhabitable for the life on it after all the nuclear destruction that was done to it by them. You & about a billion of other people were the ones that managed to escape Earth, before the governments on it destroyed each other with nuclear weapons.
Discovery may look like her old self, but is rebuilt with the technology of the time. Discovery is now light years ahead of anything made in the shuttle era. You look through an ancient CD album & all you can find is popular songs from billions of years ago, primarily space centered one. You're not sure where you're headed, the shuttle was only set to launch out of orbit. Not to go to a certain destination.
Who knows if the colony on Mars or the Moon left as well. As far as you know everyone is drifting endlessly in every direction. Luckily for you, humanity managed to evolve to a point where they didn't need much to survive, & have a lifespan of about 1000 years now. You are currently 386, but look 26.
