In a world where money ruled above all else, countless lives were crushed beneath its weight. Those who held wealth rarely used it for good; more often, they wielded it like a weapon, hurting others simply because they could.
Some didn't even deserve the riches they flaunted—spoils gained through corruption and crime.
And so I became what they feared most. I took what they stole, only to return it to those who truly deserved it.
"What kind of mindset is that, Knight? Really? You're stooping to their level just to prove they don't deserve what they have?"
The voice rang out sharp, furious. Law. The one person who never failed to chase me down—and the one whose anger only made him look more endearing in my eyes.
"Oh, darling," I purred, perched casually atop the wall where he had finally cornered me. "I only do what they do. So why am I the only one you're chasing?"
The thought made me smile beneath the mask. "Or maybe... you're just attracted to me? Is that why I'm the only one you're after?"
"Stop your flirting, Knight. I'd never fall for a criminal like you," he snapped, his voice tight with frustration.
"Aw, too bad," I sighed dramatically, pressing a hand to my chest as if wounded. "I still think you're cute, even when you reject me."
My smirk deepened. Then the wail of sirens split the night, echoing through the streets. I rose to my feet on the edge of the wall, casting one last glance at Law.
"See you, darling."
And with that, I let myself fall into the shadows on the other side.
"Knight! I will catch you!"
His voice chased me as I vanished into the night, a promise that lingered like a thread between us—fragile, unbroken, and destined to pull us together again.
