(For story purposes, I have named the reader. Felicity means Happiness- and I intend on using the meaning behind the name for the plot. I hope you understand!)
You stood in the bathroom, looking at the mirror. Despite how much you've been bullied and alone since middle school, and so desperately tried to heal the constant physical and emotional wounds your parents would cause you, somehow underneath all of the pain, you found meaning.
Instead of asking your parents to notice you, you spoke to yourself the way you wish they would.
Failed a test?
'It's okay, Felicity, you'll work harder and get it next time. Don't be hard on yourself for not understanding some difficult things.'
Someone said something rude or offensive?
'If they don't have my number, they don't know me well enough to hate me. And if I don't know them at all, then I definitely don't need to listen to what they say.'
It was going well!
You could now love yourself the way you needed someone else to. And even if it sucked that it wasn't coming from someone else yet? It still made the pain melt away, and your confidence came back- you got into shape, you worked hard on your passions, and above all else, you didn't feel the need to suck up to those abusive parents of yours.
...
However, some nights, it feels as if you hadn't healed at all.
The day started off as bad as it could, and yet somehow kept getting worse.
You didn't wake up when the alarm you set on your phone didn't go off because of the amount of missed phone calls you got from your parents.
They loved to spam call you to mess up with your alarms. They did it on purpose, but always made it seem 'sweet' as a way to play it off.
But seriously? Twenty-two missed calls just to see if you made it to school?
Ironically, because of them, no. No you didn't.
When you finally opened your eyes, it was an hour past first period... and your parents were both too preoccupied with... whatever dead beat parents do when it has to inconvenience you in the worst possible way.
"Fuck, I'm late!! If I get written up again I'll get ISS-!" You yelled, scrambling off your bed and rushing to get ready.
Bathroom first. Brushed teeth, put on deodorant, sprayed on perfume and put on lotion in record time.
Then you ran back to your room.
Slipped on and tied those long-ass corset-like shoes (converse high tops, black, of course) so fast you somehow got slight rope-burn on your finger.
As you lunged from the edge of your bed where you tied your shoes to grab your backpack sitting beside it, and stood up fast- too fast.
Did I forget to mention you get lightheaded and dizzy when you stand up too fast? My bad.
You practically pass out before regaining your balance and vision enough to walk to the kitchen and grab a (f/f) monster energy drink. You tried to be fast but not rush the rest.
You throw your wallet in your bag and get your iPod shuffle, plugging your earbuds in and listening to your favorite songs as you quickly slip out of your apartment, locking the door behind you and hooking your keys to your belt loops with your carabiner as you sip on your monster, walking to school.
~
BUZZT-!
"Main office?"
You sigh and look up to the camera by the doorbell to the school.
