(Rody walks into his new job. A restaurant called 'La Gueule de Saturne'. It was a fairly large place with marble flooring, set tables with red chairs, booths to the side with dark red seats, and a space in the middle of the establishment with tables that had "reserved" signs on them.)

The bell above the door rings as Rody steps inside.

Vincent looks up.

Vincent: "Good you're actually here for your training session."

Rody: "Oh time too!"

Vincent glances at the clock.

Vincent: "Barely."

Rody lets out a small laugh, trying to keep things light.

Vincent: "Anyway come here. I'll explain how things work around here. We're short on staff so you'll be doing most of the work-"

Rody (trying to joke around): "Oh great, so not much then."

Vincent stops walking.

He turns slowly.

Vincent: "Do you think is is a joke?"

Rody's smile drops immediately.

Rody (getting nervous): "O-oh n-no not at all sir-"

Vincent stares at him for a moment longer than necessary, then turns back toward the kitchen as if nothing happened.

Vincent: "Good. Keep up."

Vincent continues walking, his voice steady as if he's reciting a rulebook.

Vincent (explaining everything): "alright so most people who come here are either rich or extremely rude. if they get up to leave don't bother trying to get them to come back, god knows they won't.

He doesn't slow down.

Vincent: There are other people in there waiting for their food, trying to stop one bitch from leaving is a waste of time. But if they leave before taking their plates you'll need to throw them out, around here we call them 'dead plates'."

Rody blinks.

Rody: "kinda dark for a uneaten plate, don't you think?"

Vincent slowly turning around: "... I do. that's the point."

...

There's a pause—just long enough for Rody to regret speaking.

Vincent turns back around and keeps walking.

Vincent keeps walking: "you'll also need to seat the customers, some tables say 'reserved' do not crowd those tables."

Rody: "of course."

Vincent: "Also be sure not to give people the wrong menus that's a complaint waiting to happen."

Rody hesitates.

Rody: "y-yes, but uhm quick question... what's the right menu?"

Vincent exhales sharply.

Vincent: "ugh, the right menu is the one that has different foods on it. Here we make sure that the food we serve is different each day."

Rody nods quickly.

Under his breath, barely audible—

Rody (muttering to himself): "wow... fancy."

Vincent checks the clock.

Vincent: "Alright, we're about too open. Since this is only a test run I'll be watching how you do and will be correcting you of any mistakes.

His eyes flick back to Rody.

Vincent: "Rody was it? don't disappoint me."

Rody: "Y-yes sir."

Vincent gives a short and sharp nod, then turns and walks back toward the kitchen without another word.

Rody stays where he is for a moment.

He takes a deep breath, lets it out slowly, then forces his shoulders to relax.

"You can do this."

he tells himself.

When the front door opens and the bell rings, Rody steps forward to greet the customers.

Rody steps toward the front.

An older woman is already waiting there, arms crossed, her expression sharp—exactly like how Vincent described the customers, at least at first glance.

Rody: "hello mam, welcome to the-"

customer: "Table for one."

Rody: "O-okay."

He forces a polite smile and reaches for a menu.

Rody: "She's kind of a jerk," he thinks.
"Remember what the boss said."

Rody straightens his posture and gestures toward the dining area.

Rody: Right this way.

Rody leads the woman to her table and hands her a menu, discreetly checking the date printed at the corner. Today's date. Right one.

Rody: "just call when you're ready to order."

customer: "I know what I want."

Rody blinks.

Rody: "already? that was a fast decision I'm jealous. what would you like?"

She doesn't even look at the menu.

customer: "what I had yesterday."

Rody freezes.

Vincent's voice echoes in his head:

"here, we make sure to serve different dishes everyday."

Rody: "uhm... I'm sorry miss but, "here, we make sure to serve different dishes everyday." (quoting Vincent)

The woman scoffs.

customer: "ugh, just like that emotionless brat cook. Do you want my money or not?"

Rody stiffens.

Rody: "uhh-"

customer: "then I suggest you forget what you boss said and do what I am saying."

She finally looks up at him.

Waiting.
