No familiar names.
No traceable ties.
A clean transfer.
Too clean.
"Yerin..." he breathes out, voice low and dangerous. "What the hell are you doing?"
He leans back in his chair, hands locked together in front of his mouth.
He thinks it's the card.
It has to be the card.
What else could it be?
Money means movement.
Movement means escape.
Escape means she's still trying.
His mind spirals.
He imagines her paying someone.
He imagines a lawyer.
A private investigator.
A safehouse.
A bribe.
A false passport.
A fucking escape route right under his nose.
His jaw clenches so tightly the muscle twitches.
"...No. No, you didn't."
He opens the bank logs again like they'll magically give him more.

His breathing steadies.
His face resets—blank, controlled, icy.
Then he opens the door.
Yerin is asleep.
On her side.
Face calm.
Breathing slow.
One hand curled under her cheek like she has nothing in the world to worry about.
Like she didn't just shake the ground under his feet.
He walks closer.
Slow.
Measured.
Watching.
Thinking.
Her hair has fallen slightly over her face; he reaches out, stops his hand inches away, then curls his fingers into a fist instead.
He doesn't touch her.
He studies her.
Reads her.
Searches her expression for guilt.
For fear.
For intention.
Nothing.
She looks peaceful.
Peaceful.
Meanwhile his mind is tearing itself apart.
He crouches next to the bed, elbows on his knees, staring at her with an expression halfway between fury and obsession and something far more raw.
He whispers,
