Chapter 1 - Marriage of convenience
The room was silent, interrupted only by the rustle of the paper while Ryujin signed the documents. In front of her, Yeji sat straight, flawless in her black dress, hands intertwined on her lap. No smile, no trembling. Only absolute coldness.
«Is everything okay?» Ryujin asked, looking for eye contact that didn't come.
Yeji barely looked up. "Yes. As expected.»
The voice was calm, almost icy. Ryujin felt a shiver run down his back. She had imagined this moment a thousand times, but she had never prepared for the feeling of total estrangement she felt now, sitting next to her wife for convenience.
The notary turned the last pages. «Sir and madam...»
Ryujin inhaled deeply, but the air seemed cold. When he shook Yeji's hand, she didn't react, she didn't make any gesture that suggested emotion. Only the cold contact of the fingers.
As they left the office, Ryujin felt a heavy look behind his shoulders. Yeji walked with a firm step, without turning around, and Ryujin realized that, in that marriage, the only certainty was uncertainty.
That day, Ryujin thought he would get to know Yeji. He still didn't know that Yeji was already an enigma, and that some riddles are not made to be solved... but to terrify those who dare to approach.
