“I have loved you every day since the first time I met you, and I will continue to love you each day til we are old and grey.”

Seok stared at Hyuk in shock, at their hands wrapped around one another as Hyuk bent to one knee. The wrong knee, but Seok couldn’t find his voice to correct him. The ground seemed to be falling away underneath them as the dreaded question started to form on Hyuk’s lips.

“Seok, will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?”

Tears welled in Seok’s eyes as he tried to focus. The entire Singing Beetle family is right there, waiting for his answer. This is what would make everyone happy, so just smile and nod. That’s all they need to convince themselves that you’re happy.

Seok takes a deep breath, brings his signature smile to the surface, and nods as tears stream down his cheeks. Nobody knows that you aren’t crying for joy, so keep smiling until you can get away.

Seok lets Hyuk slide a ring onto his finger as he leans in to kiss him meekly. They are soon swallowed up in a crowd of well-wishers and joyous congratulations, and Seok keeps smiling, trying to bury the despair burrowing into his heart.

At the first moment Seok could sneak away from the Singing Beetle celebrations without raising suspicions, he did. Nobody seemed to notice him sneak out, but even if they did, the company was used to his wanderings.

The house had been filled with a feast of food, laughter, and a revolving door of well-wishers for multiple hours after the news broke that Hyuk and Seok were engaged. Seok had been nauseous the entire time, so his escape from the cramped house was a relief.

Gulping down the cold winter air to clear his lungs, Seok ambled down the path, absent-mindedly twisting the slightly too-big ring on his finger as he reflected on what life with Hyuk would look like.

The joy on Aito & Nathan’s faces as they watched their two best friends marry.

The deafening cheers of the 5TARZ while on tour, while continuing to ignore the empty space in their lineup.

Late nights in the studio, long dance rehearsals, and the laughter from doing silly shenanigans for TikToks.

An idealistic future where his family is happy, but Seok is left to mourn what could have been.

With everyone ignoring the loud laughter that used to fill the halls of the studios, the unwavering support that used to be shouted across the room, and the unique love that HIS true love used to share with the world every day. Why did it have to turn out this way!

Seok shakes himself out of his thoughts as he approaches the road and hails a taxi.
