Neither was her scent…as she turned her hair fanned it into his face, lilacs perhaps, or lavender…he would seek that scent until the ends of the earth if that’s what it took to put a name to it.

Ah, but it already had a name, Sera Turner.

“Distrac’tion indeed,” Jerry’s snort had Gage’s fantasy melting away.

Gage shook off his thoughts and turned to Jerry with an apologetic expression, “sorry, it’s been a while.”

He nodded as he yawned, “Which is why d’u shouldn’t have turned de ot’er woman down, now,” he slipped back down to the pillows, “d’u want tu wrap up dis story? Dis body is lazy, it needs too much sleep.”

Another downfall to inhabiting the body of others, if you wanted the ride to last you had to obey the vessel’s needs. Including eating and sleeping as it called for…even if it was inconvenient.

“I think that Duncan has a hand in it too. He’s not in charge of their people, Sera is of that I am sure, but even so I think she consults him in many things. That much was obvious when they expelled the boy they found distracting their sentry.”

“So t’en d’u take two tu Lucifer, ‘er confession will condemn t’em both, what’s de problem?”

Gage scrubbed a hand over his chin. Yes, what was the problem?

“I suppose nothing,” he shook his head in an attempt to shake off that odd feeling in the back of his mind. If she was weighed, however marginally, then she was weighed. He should be having no second guesses to ending her life or Duncan’s.

“Go get laid would d’u?” Jerry sighed and flopped into the mattress on his side, “Du’re aw’fully distractible right now. T’en, once du is t’inking with d’ur big head, d’u can worry about ‘ow du is going tu get t’ose confessions in de morning.”

   That reminded Gage…

“That I’ve already figured out,” he grinned as he waved a finger in the air.

Jerry rolled back over and shot a contemptuous look at Gage, “I know dat tone, dat tone means du’re goin’ tu ‘ave me do something I don’t want tu do.”

“I just need you to drop me off at the train station Jerry,” Gage said flatly.

   “When?”

   “Tomorrow morning.”

   “Tu’morrow? But I t’ought d’u had a meetin’ at de Senator’s office tu’morrow?”

“I do, but I was planning on taking the train Vancouver instead.”

   “Why?” Jerry narrowed his eyes.

“Because Sera is taking the train into Vancouver tomorrow and I thought it would give me the chance to speak with her in earnest, gain her confidence some,” he paused, “and I believe driving me around is in your contracted duties.”

“It is,” the demon nodded in understanding and began slumping back down into the mattress, “wait,” he sat back up, “where is dis train station?”

“Kamloops,” he said very matter of factly.

“I knew it,” Jerry threw his hand in the air, “t’at’s an hour and a half from ‘ere. An hour and a half in de wrong direction if I’m tu meets d’u in Vancouver.”

“Who said anything about meeting me in Vancouver?”

Jerry gave him a deadpan look, “how long have we been doing dis suh’?”
